I read about those claims elsewhere – it does sound like a fudging of data. Gun-regulation advocates do themselves no favours by giving this kind of ammunition (lol) to their opponents; the actual statistics are damning enough.

ok, well only 5 then were actually during school hours, so um why is everyone whinging? just the five incidents during school hours in a still open school on a school day? um how many deaths in that 5? and the ones that 'dont count' - a suicide on site, an accidental discharge - what the **** are guns doing in the classroom? any where on school grounds? i mean, god, well only the five then? in the 6 weeks of this year? wowee, lets celebrate a week where no mentally challenged person grabbed a gun and mowed down a few innocent kids or a teacher or two with an assault weapon! yeah ha, god bless america!

so how did this become the norm? that no one is shocked to the core? that anyone can stick an ONLY in any of these sentences?

^^^
TP, to some people who have power and influence over US gun laws, no deaths would count except their own --- and maybe not even those.

Why drag Trump into it!?

TRUMP HAD MANY GENUINE SUCCESSES THIS (2017) YEAR, DESPITE LOW APPROVAL RATING.

Agreed.

If you said that there had been 5 school shootings in 2018, basically 7 weeks, surely that's 5 too many.

Inflating the figure for clickbait just destroys the credibility of your argument when inevitably you get caught out

Trump... the President who gets things done Cool

US President Donald Trump open to tougher gun background checks after Florida high school massacre

THE White House signalled that US President Donald Trump would be open to bolstering gun background checks in the wake of a mass shooting at a Florida high school last week that rekindled the debate about gun control.

Since when is being “open” to something the same as “getting it done” ?

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/452390/national-rifle-association-support-voters-politicians-campaign-contributions-minuscule

"In terms of lobbying and political contributions, the NRA and the gun industry generally spend next to nothing compared with the big players. According to OpenSecrets, the NRA spent $1.1 million on contributions in 2016 and $3 million on lobbying. The food and beverage industry has spent $14 million on lobbying in 2017 alone. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, spent $9 million on contributions in 2016."

"The simple reality is that the NRA doesn’t need to spend a lot of money convincing politicians to protect gun rights. All it needs to do is spend a little money clarifying that a great many of those politicians’ constituents care deeply about gun rights."

Er, ok. Just on that headline...

Quote:
Every Mass Shooting Shares One Thing In Common & It’s NOT Weapons

Laughing That’s some A-grade doublethink for you!

Anyway, let’s put the conspiracy theorising in the article to one side – there really is a link between gun ownership and paranoia, isn’t there? – and look at the claims. I have no way of verifying them (and ‘some guy’s Facebook post’ isn’t exactly an amazing news source), but even if they’re all true, only six by my count qualify as mass shootings (four or more people killed); the rest include smaller shootings, attacks with other weapons or suicides. This in a country in which 146 mass shootings (and obviously many, many more smaller ones) have occurred in the last 50 years. So that already makes the ‘every’ or ‘nearly every’ claim laughable. And we still don’t know whether the drugs were a primary factor, a partial factor or a negligible factor in the listed cases. So I don’t know if there’s something to the claimed link between ADHD medication and violence, but I do know that Ammoland.com’s reportage leaves a little to be desired. Laughing
