^ Yes, sounds like a way of narrowing the field on the cheap. If money didn't concern them, they'd do the same narrowing, but with a human interviewer. Skype interviews with humans are not ideal, but probably good enough...

If you're looking at mining jobs, the geography comes into play. People will be applying from thousands of miles away, unlike jobs in a city.

It's a cost effective way of shortlisting that's better than just a phone call or culling by instinct. It will be interesting to see how they manage the final interview list if Skids makes it.

It's funny, in hindsight, I probably could have been better prepared and answered the questions better... I guess that's the plan, put you on the spot and see how you respond.

I think I went ok and reckon I said enough right to get to the next stage.

The way things change hey... compared to my first interview for a paper boy role in 1978, the world sure is a different place Very Happy

There were over 500 applicants from across the country.

Roster is 14 on 11 off, 14 on 10 off.

I just had the face to face interview.
Pretty impressive headquarters near Perth airport. HR chic met me in the foyer after I'd signed in and got my pass, explained that as well as herself and both supervisors, a trainee HR chic would be observing.

A pretty standard interview. Throw various; safety, trade and technical questions relevant to the position. What do you know about us, why do you want to work here?
They were all easy to talk with and I think it went fine. Find out tomorrow. I'll take it if I get it. Cool

Also done through an agency, XREF.

You have to send email details of the referees, who then receive an online form to submit. There is also a 'background verification' to submit to Equifax. Copies of; passport, drivers license, medicare card, credit card and a selfie holding your license.

Golly, I hope their internet security is top-notch, if they want you to upload all of those.

I didn't even think about that Confused

In September 2017, Equifax announced a cyber-security breach, which it claims to have occurred between mid-May and July 2017, where cybercriminals accessed approximately 145.5 million U.S. Equifax consumers' personal data, including their full names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and driver license numbers. Equifax also confirmed at least 209,000 consumers' credit card credentials were taken in the attack. On March 1, 2018, Equifax announced that 2.4 million additional U.S. customers were affected by the breach. The company claims to have discovered evidence of the cybercrime event on July 29, 2017. Residents in the United Kingdom and Canada were also impacted.

Got the offer and verbally accepted. Gave my 4 weeks notice.
Start the new gig 19th of November.

The thing that sealed the deal was the change of roster where I am now, going from 12 on / 9 off to 8/6.... We have a 2hr flight from Perth, then a 3 hour ride in a toyota 12 seater, no way I want to do that trip every week!
They did offer me an extra $10k to stay but I'm outa here Cool

Nice work mate. I'm just happy working again, kicking the brain out of neutral and getting some money coming back in.

Even better it was a tap on the shoulder, no application and no interview, 2 things I'm poor at.

Finished at Atlas yesterday. What a finish!
Had to drive a ute in for a service, cracked windscreen and no air con. 3 hours of joy. Pour water over your head and be completely dry in 5 minutes, 40+ every day this month, the forecast is 44 on Thursday.

So many good people in the mining game make the industry. Unless you've been there, you'll never understand waking up every day, at 0430 and working a 12, 13 or 14 hour day in extremes that are indescribable.
I'm lucky, my trade has me out of the weather a lot. What the boys on the plants endure is ridiculous.

Well, that's day four down... and I'm knackered!

This place, Roy Hill, really has to be seen to be believed! It is ginormous!!!
2200 man camp, the gym, the pool, the wetty and the dry mess are incredible.
Been working pretty flat out, the boys tell me it's not usually this hectic, so here's hoping it settles down a bit.

Can't believe, that in this climate, there's NO washing lines!
Everyone uses a dryer... it's 40 degrees!! I've tied a line up out the front of my donga tonight and hung mine out. A few people have told me it's not allowed... ha, I'll take it down in the morning.

I pondered the word "donga" and found this:
