Someone here said that Sacha Baron Cohen pulled out because he knew the movie was essentially a "retconning of facts" despite its entertainment value.
Someone should have whispered to him "you just dropped the Oscar mate!!!"

I think he is just a deviant who wanted to focus on telling the stories of decadence and debauchery, instead of focusing on the music and the band (and the positive things (as the band wanted him to).
SBC likes to shock people and this movie is really just a showcase of Queen the band, showcasing a very PG brand of Freddie's life (they sought the PG rating rather than an R rating so they could attract a younger audience).
Cant argue though, Queen has introduced itself to the young generation, reminded us older folks how much we loved queen growing up, and how talented Freddie Mercury was, and won oscars!
