From last nights Footy Classified;

Quote:
Matthew Lloyd Top 5 Pies:
1. Peter Daicos.
250 Games - 549 Goals.

2. Nathan Buckley.
280 Games - 284 Goals.

3. Scott Pendlebury.
283 Games - 167 Goals.

4. Darren Millane.
147 Games - 78 Goals.

5. Dane Swan.
258 Games - 211 Goals.

Very interesting to see a non-Collingwood persons view. And even more interesting he has Daics #1.

They also showed vision of Tony Shaw saying its Pendlebury or Buckley thats #1. Lloyd said he shares a lot of time with Shaw in the working week and said Shaw mentioned Daicos, Buckley and Shaw in regard to the issue. However, Shaw didnt mention Daicos in the vision.

The other pannelists (Carro, Judd and Hutchy) didnt add much to the convo. Carro mentioned Bucks had the more penetrating kick, but Pendles is more classy.

I'd love to see what Lloyd would say if asked Hird/Pendlebury?

Bit of discussion in the last quarter Vs Port from Carey and Richo.

They didnt really come to a conclusion but seemed to think its out of Buckley and Pendels as the Pies best ever.

Since 1980 clearly the top two are Buckley and Daicos but after that it's a bit cloudy to me. I think we should wait till Pendles career is over before we assess. At this point he has a couple less Copelands than Buckley and won't win this year. Gavin Brown and McGuane also have to be considered in the mix of great players since 1980. We complain about the Brownlow being a midfielders medal but it's the same when we consider our own players. I don't think anybody would consider Anthony Rocca and Clement up there with the others but they were also great players.

Like many, Daicos was my favourite growing up, but Pendles is a better player and it's not that close. Bucks and Pendles are 1 and 2, and probably not in that order.

If you look at Pendlebury over the length of his career, he has been remarkable for the way that he plays so consistently at such a high standard. It is ridiculous, really, that he should have equalled his career high for inside 50s (11) tonight. He is just unstoppable.

He’ll reach 300 games and likely break Tony Shaw’s record to become our games record holder (313 for memory). He will be in Brownlow contention at this point of the season too. I think we all thought he’d just go forward or back this season with so many mids at our disposal but clearly he’s not doing that anytime soon. A flag as Captain would make it pretty hard to beat him as our best ever if he’s not already.

And a second Norm Smith would seal it.

Here's an interesting stat - Pendles has started this season with more disposals than he had in the first 7 games of 2011. So, on 29 disposals per game so far, if the 'Pies go deep into the finals and he stays healthy, he's on track to top 700 disposals for the second time in his career.

Just quietly, he's probably also on track to win the Brownlow Medal, which would be fitting, since he's been consistently the best player to take the field in the AFL over at least the last decade (although he might not want to receive a medal that the umpires were silly enough award to Tom "Cactus" Mitchell).

Agree with this. If it was favorite player discussion, I think Daics would always win - probably the most beloved Colloingwood player of all time (for those of us luck enough to have witnessed his entire career).

But Bucks & Pendles are better footballers. As for who is best, I think I'll wait until Pendles has retired to make a call.

Has played Essendon and Carlton more than the other teams.

Vs Ess: 17-8

Vs Carl: 16-6

Needs a few more wins over the Hawks though.

For interest sake:

Heath Shaw needs ten more games to reach 300 for his career.

Dale Thomas needs 4 more to reach 250 for his. (also needs 11 to reach 100 for Carlton).

He's been great this year, our best in my view. Don't feel he's getting the deserved plaudits, but that's fine.

Really hoping we can go all the way this season as it could be the last of close to peak Pendles.
