Joe Burns fit to play again but Ashes prospects in limbo

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/27100101/joe-burns-fit-play-again-ashes-prospects-limbo

"Post-viral fatigue is an umbrella term for serious fatigue symptoms that can afflict individuals following a viral infection. A number of cricketers and athletes have suffered from it, and it notably ended the career of former Australia under 19 captain and Western Australia batsman Rob Baker.

Burns' issues were not found to be as severe and after a prescribed rest period, Burns began training again on June 17. He took to Twitter on Monday to announce he has been cleared to play again."

Joe Burns added to Australia A squad with Ashes on the horizon

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/27108520/joe-burns-added-australia-squad-ashes-horizon

' "The hardest thing is the uncertainty. When I got diagnosed, I knew I had symptoms for a long time, so I knew that something wasn't right, but to get the diagnosis and then work with some specialists and get the support from Cricket Australia to get myself right, get back into training, as soon as you have certainty it makes it a lot easier."

Marcus Harris was originally the only specialist opener picked in the four-day squad but Australia's chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said they needed to give Burns the opportunity to press his case for the Ashes.'

Patto: 4/60 & 3/17 against Sussex.

He and Hazlewood are vying for the third quick, in the Ashes XI.

Haz bowled his usual line & length to return 0/46 from 19 overs and 0/7 from 5.

Oz A won by 10 wickets.

"Former England captain Nasser Hussain told The Age and Sydney Morning Herald how impressed he had been with Carey's "Test-match batting" through the World Cup, while Steve Waugh says there is no reason why he not should be considered for a Test debut come August 1 at Edgbaston."

So, subject to injuries, the team would be:

Warner, Harris, Khawaja, Smith, Handscomb, Carey (???), Paine, Cummins, Pattinson, Starc, Lyon. Hazlewood to come in if he can take a wicket or 5 in the lead-up games.

Speaking on Saturday in Canterbury on the eve of a four-day clash with the England Lions, Trevor Hohns revealed Australia's Ashes squad is set to be capped at 16 players, with "12 or 13" core players already chosen.

He also mentioned there'd be 5 quicks named.

Probably: Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood, Patterson and 1 of Siddle, Bird or Neser.

Add Lyon and Holland.

Wade will be reserve 'keeper but could also make it as a top 6 bat.

Possible Test XI:

Warner
Harris
Khawaja (depending on his hammy)/ Head
Smith
Wade
Patterson
Paine
Pattinson
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
---------------

Other 4:
Handscomb or Carey
Hazlewood
Holland
Neser, Sids or Bird

It's a fairly anonymous middle order - I actually have no idea who will be picked at 5 and 6. You're probably right about the 11, Donny - but it doesn't fill me with much confidence. It's hardly Steve Waugh, Martyn and Gilchrist, at 5 to 7, is it?

There's no way Handscomb will make the squad.

He shouldn't even have been in the ODI SF team.
