I used to be undecided, but now I'm not so sure.

So, just for the record, we are 1 win and 2 losses after 3 rounds and 11th on the ladder.

This is in dreadful contrast to our fantastic start to 2018. After 3 rounds last year, we were 1 win and 2 losses and 14th on the ladder.

Comparisons to last year's first three games are meaningless. I don't know why last year's H&A stuff keeps being brought up.

In what way? In terms of projection for total points at the end of H&A? Maybe...

No,we weren’t.We had a much easier draw last year. This year we’ve played one of the premiership favourites every week.

(... although, in a few weeks time, Rich will be very far from premiership favourites -- let's not pretend that was one of the hardest possible matches.)

To be fair, it was a better win than the one in round 3 last year against Carlton. You are right that the comparisons are of limited utility. We are, though, slightly better placed than we were this time last year, for all the huffing and puffing from the peanut gallery.

But the trouble is they were premiership favourites when we played them.So essentially we have played one of the premiership fancies every week this year,a very different story from this time last year.

I believe we were premiership favourites even then (though it may not be possible to check now). I think at least joint flag favouritism started round about the time Rance's ACL snapped.* (It's like WC don't exist for punters.)

Apart from that...

I know what you're saying, but it's a bit like last year's "we haven't beaten anyone in the eight" arguments. e.g. We had a good win against Adelaide, but we know how their year went. Do we judge that on their favouritism at the time, or by their performance over the whole year?

*Ed. The betting thread shows that just before the game the odds were 50-50, so maybe the flag odds were equal or very close...
