Streak won the toss and sent Australia in to bat.

I sense a big innings from Marto, today.

Well it has been raining this morning in the city and its still overcast but play should start on time.

Well these are perfect conditions for Martyn:

1. Weak bowling attack
2. Australia has already made the finals so no pressure from that perspective
3. His place in the team is under no threat according to Ponting so no pressure there either.
4. He received a good luck sms from Wayne Clark....lol

Lets see how many runs Damian can muster up today.

Well Martyn is off to a flyer and this could be his day out in the sun (or clouds judging by this weather)

Martyn out LBW for 42......didnt see the decision to know whether it was a good one or not.

Great knock from Damien.

What's it matter ?

No good glaring at the umpy, Marto, good or bad decision, you missed the ball.

Looked in sparkling form. 42 from 40 balls.

Australia 1/60 as rain forces the players from the field.

Hayden was bowled by Hondo for 26 and Australia is 2/97 after 16 overs.

Ponting and Clarke have whacked 28 from 16 balls.
------------------------------------

Clarke misjudged one from Mahwire and was bowled for 11. After 20 overs, it's 3/115
-------------------------------------

After 28 overs it's 4/142. Harvey was run out for 23.

In other words a poor man Marks Waugh

Rain strikes after Martyn cameo

Wisden Cricinfo staff

January 29, 2004

11.3 overs Australia 60 for 1 (Hayden 17*, Ponting 1*) v Zimbabwe
Live scorecard

Damien Martyn proved what a gorgeous sight he could be and got Australia off to a solid start at the MCG. Heath Streak ended Martyn's innings of 42, off 40 balls, with a teasing in-cutter just before rain stopped play, with Australia on 60 for 1. But the little play that was possible could have been labelled the `Martyn show'.

With Adam Gilchrist not playing, it was tough to imagine Matthew Hayden playing the support act. Hayden got things underway off the fourth ball of the day as he smacked a juicy half-volley from Streak to the cover boundary. Martyn took over from there and displayed all his wares. Anything full and straight, he delectably turned to square leg with wonderfully elastic wrists. When it was short and wide, he stood on his toes and slapped it through the point region. And he even ventured down the track on a couple of occasions and lofted the ball over the bowler's head. It wasn't as brutal as a Gilchrist assault but there was a smooth air to all the shots he executed.

He fell in the 11th over as he completely missed a well-directed in-cutter from Streak (59 for 1) and was visibly disappointed as the stoppage was imminent. Ricky Ponting joined Hayden at the crease when play was stopped.

Toss Zimbabwe opted to field v Australia

Bevo held it together, again. 56 from 56 balls before being run out. Haddin supported well for 32.

Australia made 263 with Bichel (23 from 19) tonking a 6 from the last ball.

So, what's your point, JLC ?

This is the same Zimbabwe that has twice taken India to the line.

Yeah an Indian team with no Tendulkar, Kahn, Singh, Kumble or Shewag who are experimenting on their way to the finals.

Zimbabwe are towards the bottom of thescale when it comes to one day teams.

Nothin better than watchin daimo play his shots, especially his cover drive. Makes me foam at the mouth.

Despite Picky Ronting's assurances that his position is safe. I would say that he's on thinner ice than Lee. Should get one more chance against India to prove himself.
