So?
Do they make a big deal if a player is battling a case of acne? (oh yeah, Acnemanis)
Why the big deal? _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

Channel 9 named him - I am really not sure that we "need to know" or have a "a right to know " such confidential details.
Anyway for the player involved I hope that you get the appropriate treatment and get back on track both personally and from a football perspective.
Mental illness still carries such a stigma in our community!! |

I know 2 people who have depression, and the stigma surrounding it. I think good on him for comming out. Show respect to this guy pies because the first step is admitting that there is a problem.
Although he plays for Hawthorn, Good Luck mate! _________________ ASCSA - Alice Springs Collingwood Supporters association - President and sole member |

Ch9 are bastards.
The player in question should be left alone - he wouldn't be the first AFL player to suffer from depression and I doubt that he would be the last.
The guy needs help and support, not a media circus making him feel abnormal.

Its well documented that Paul Salmon suffered depression after doing his knee when he was in his younger days and almost took his life. It can hit anyone no matter how much talent or money they have. Its not a nice thing to watch someone suffer... Lets hope the public naming of this player is a positive effect as you wouldn't want to see any tragic endings to such a problem. _________________ Tradition? Its a really really horrible thing to go through.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who have or are suffering from depression or any other mental illness. Because it's not generally a visable illness, most times you just don't know.
On average, 1 in 5 people will suffer from some form of depression in their life. Currently there are over 1 million adults and 100,000 junior/adolescents suffering from depression in Australia. Half a million working days are lost every month to depression in Australia.

That's cool, just wondering who it was. Not to hang shit or anything. My mum has it and it isn't good at all. You have to have sympathy for someone like that. Sorry if I was out of line by asking. |

I deplore all Collingwood people not to make light or fun of this issue - I assure you that attending a suicide is the most devasting thing Iihave had to do in my long healthcare career (and unfortunately it has not been an isolated case) - please let us show us the Collingwood way - humanity and a fair go for all! |
