I don't know why anyone bothers arguing over politics. No one ever agrees.

I argue about it myself, but it is so pointless.

And why would you feel sorry for Bob Carr,MG? Is it because his image is just as false as Johnny Liar? Is it because his politics are only one degree to the left of Johnny Liar? The last person anyone should feel sorry for is Bob Carr. A pathetic copy of our wowserish, lying PM.

I know it was reported MG, I never doubted that. Just wondered why Leon bothered when he knew there was only vitriol waiting to be directed at him.
For your sake MG, I hope Labour don't win the federal election. An all Australian/state.territory/federal Labour run country may force you to do something drastic.

I hope Labor dont win the federal election either because then we will see all the little minority parties start to get the way out of the wood work. Groups such as the Greens, Social Alliance (communist party), etc.

Think about this. There is only one way the 10% gst can be put up, and that requires an agreement from the Federal and ALL of the state governments. If Labor get in, with the minority groups of the greens and social alliance, the GST will go up, mark my words.

Australia is in the best position is has been for at least 10 years. If we have a recession now, which could easly happen, Australia will be stuffed all over again. Thousands and thousands of people have brought homes on low interest rates. Recession, as most of you would know, puts interest rates up. Bye Bye everyone who brought a home!

Everyone will always disagree about politics, thank god we at least (mostly) agree about Collingwood!!!

**If Labor get up I would exepct the first thing they would do is abolish the GST, otherwise wouldnt it mean they lied when they said the opposed the GST?**

It wouldnt be the first time Labor lied...

How can forget their past records, such as their idea of abolishing the M5 toll here in Sydney?

Or Paul Keating! need i say more?

It's cos there are people out there who enjoy arguing, and politics is great for them because everybody has a slightly different opinion on it.

They go up in a boom period

So, can you explain why they are low now? And why they were high in the early 90s?

I know economic theory suggests that that should occur, but how often does it truly occur?

They rose in the late 1980's because of the boom - they just didnt fall fast enough in the recession
Interest rates are a great tool in curbing expansion - but no that good at stimulating growth
And there are problems with lags - which is why they were raised by so much in the late 80's - because they were precieved (incorrectly) as not having any effect

And our interest rates are actually quite high at the moment
You cant compare them to the late 1980's but relative to half of Europe, the States and Japan we do have high interest rates
