Post subject: Grand Final Tickets.......AFL take noteReply with quote

This subject definately doesn't relate to the Pies this year however it is worth a mention mid week when we hunger for the weekend and more footy. It also continues on the 'AFL Sux' theme.

I attended my first ever rugby game this week, Melbourne Storm v Auckland Warriors. (I got free tickets given to me) I actually enjoyed the game and it was an interesting experience to compare it to real footy.

What I couldn't believe though was what I saw in the record whilst flicking through it at half time.

This week over 40,000 public admission tickets go on sale for the NRL Grand Final at Stadium Australia along with 34,000 tickets for Season ticket holders.

This is further proof of how the AFL could not give a shit about the grass roots supporters like us. Stadium Australia holds about 110,000 people, with the 'G' currently at about 93,000. Even allowing for the AFL and MCC members, there is still a lot of seats left, however, even season ticket holders of the two competing clubs cannot be guaranteed a spot.

Even when we won in 1990 the only way I got in was by using my brother-in-law's VFL Park membership ticket and practising signing his name until my hand fell off. And even then I had to get there at 7am and sit in the top deck of the Northern Stand.

I reckon the AFL are doing most things better than the rugby boys, however when it comes to finals tickets they could learn something from their northern neighbours. They continue to treat the real fans with contempt.

Go Pies and Go Storm.
