Post subject: Shack to the Devils? | |
|
I was thinking, the other day when I heard that Matthew Armstrong has been after former Tasmanians that have been delisted from the AFL clubs. I thought that Luke Shackelton could be next on the Devils hit list.
Maybe even on the Burnie Dockers hit list, if Shackelton doesn't get a 2nd run in the AFL. Nothing has been reported on it yet, but I would think that the Devils would pounce on Shack if no other AFL club desides to take him.
After all, they have announced they are after Former Bulldog Patrick Wiggins, and former cRow Tim Hazzell. _________________ Ðavâgé

I thought that Shacks was trainign with melbourne and looking for a rookie listed position. But I wouldn't be surprised if he did travel back to Tassie to play for the Devils - they'd have apretty fair side with Bartlett, Plapp, Wiggens, Hazel and possibly Shacks. |

saw this today on the website thought there may be a couple of you intreasted in it
THE Tasmanian Devils are "very keen" to have former Collingwood footballer Luke Shackleton join their ranks.
Shackleton was delisted from the Magpies and then overlooked in Tuesday's pre-season draft and Devils coach Mathew Armstrong said the club was eager to secure his services.
"He's a Tasmanian boy and things haven't quite worked out for him and I guess we'd like to bring him home, set him up in employment and a career path and then get him playing for the Devils," Armstrong said.
"We've spoken to him quite a bit so we are just hoping we can find the right employment for him.
"We can't compete with SANFL clubs money-wise because their salary is so much greater than ours so we have to find career paths so they come back and have a career outside of football.
"We try to bring our own back if it's possible and maybe give them a second chance."
Armstrong believed Shackleton's ability as an all-rounder would compliment the Devils outfit.
"Luke can play everywhere down back, through the midfield and forward," he said.
"He's a good-quality VFL player and on a number of occasions when we played against him he has taken us to the cleaners. He's especially good at stoppages and his ball-winning ability.
"I think he's cut out for AFL, but you need some luck and it just hasn't fallen his way at the moment.
"It isn't all over, it will be a lot of hard work, but he certainly has the making of the right stuff."
Former Devonport all-rounder, Tassie Mariners best-and-fairest winner and St Kilda player Kurt Heazlewood moved to Hobart last month following a stint with Eastlake in Canberra and has become a regular face at Devils training sessions.
"Yes, Kurt is back training with us and that's fantastic, another Tasmanian coming home," Armstrong said.
Armstrong said he was not chasing any other players following the pre-season draft due to salary cap restrictions.

If Shacks wants to play AFL once more, wouldn't he be better off at the Tassie Devils, where he'd gain more exposure? |

He'd get even more exposure were he to stay with Williamstown. _________________ Glory Glory Good Old Collingwood, Glory Glory Hallelujah,

Yeah he probably would, but with the amount of talent the Devils have right now, he is better off finding a club to play for in Tasmania (either SFL, or NTFL) and play his hardest to be selected. _________________ Ðavâgé

Exactly Cannibal. If he has a steller season at a VFL club, he will almost definitly be picked up in 2006. I don't think returning to Tassie will be the best idea. |

I suspected they would pick him up... good to see him get a chance with the Devils... Is a very good player at VFL level and will be very handy with the Devils.
Don't know that he's much of a chance to ever get back in the AFL, but I think he's made the right choice if that is still his ambition. |
