Post subject: a rowdy silence | |
|
,,as I was reading the afl web-page report on Bux extended contract I couldn't help thinking about our stalwart, Rowdy.
He was an automatic choice as successor to TS, but even at the outset it was obvious his personality was more inwardly focussed than the typical "media style" captain. Objectively, in retrospect, his "style" was not as emotionally infectious as Bux is but obviously this wasn't his fault.
Frankly, I'm wrapt to see a statesman like Bux assume the role because all sorts of wrap-around benefits are reaped by having a public "figure" in place. My heart bleeds for Rowdy though because he probably feels lesser than he should, of his fulfillment of the captaincy.
The legacy of this error in not packaging Rowdy correctly, by not supporting him as perhaps was needed, can now only be corrected by eulogising the guy as a CFC immortal. Not only will we back-fill the dues owed him but it will add to the Magpie tradition of pride, courage and that unfathomable "collingwoodness".
GOOD ON YER ROWDY YOU'RE A HERO. |
