One thing not considered here, when comparing this premiership side to previous ones is how different the landscape of player movement has changed, even in the past 3-4 years player movement across the entire competition has vastly grown.

Yep, another of Pigboy Demetrious many crimes. Free agency has made loyalty & 'one club players' an endangered species. The people this hurts most are the kids. Who here didn't have posters or clippings of their faves on their bedroom walls. I had pictures from the 'Sun' of Shaw, Daics, Kink, and Moore. Nowadays you'd hafta change every year. It wouldn’tbe that hard to imagine a kid having posters of Brown, Marsh, & Tooves up, now they have to change. My nephew loved Wayne Carey (yes, I failed to convert him, but not for lack of trying), and went to most North games. After Carey left he all but lost interest in footy, both watching, supporting & playing. He was a gun at 12, now he's 18 and a single figure golfer.

How could this corporatisation of the game be good??? We're alienating kids, If you'd told me last week that Mitchell & Lewis weren't Hawks, and that O'Meara & Tom Mitchell were. I'd be stunned - and not happy! Thanks Pigboy, you did it. Money is everything, loyalty - from both clubs & players, is gone. Yay!

Something is wrong when more players are leaving us than Carlton.

In reality though, Marsh is the only real loss [pending].
All the others were ageing like milk, and/or plodding away in the VFL.
I hope Frost reconsiders though, he suddenly has the club over a barrel.

And Swan's premature demise was a tragic accident, so can't really count him amongst the cull/exodus.

14 out of 44 is a large number. Didn't Malthouse cut like a dozen in 2000?

This is the list of exits from our playing group this year:

Swan
Caff
Tooves
Brown
Goodyear

Plus probably:

Cloke
Frost
Witts
Marsh
Gault

And possibly:

Williams
Greenwood

If these all eventuate, then that makes a turnover of 12 players, which I can't ever recall taking place before. Of those, only Greenwood and Williams would be any great loss, so all in all I'm excited at the possibilities such a big turnover provides.

How many grand final players left from the st. kilda team? And how many Geelong premiership players left from 2011?

Doesn't make up for the 'in-house' blunders we've been churning out for repeated years... look maybe bucks will grow a little bit of sensitivity, or maybe get a little smarter in his game plan (with a little help from friends..), who knows?!?

Most people are agreed... we will have to improve this next year, and I think its a given, but by how much? And will it just be a token lift? One without any real long term substance.. these are the questions we need to ask ourselves, as a club.

From the StK side we beat in the 2010 Granny, they have Dempster, Gilbert, Reiwoldt, Montagna & Fisher still playing for them. So they have 5 left.

From Geelong's side in the Granny of 2011, they still have Duncan, Hawkins, Lonegan, Mackie, Selwood & Taylor (not counting Bartel whose retirement seems imminent). So they have 6 left.

So I guess we are on-trend with our recent Grand Final rivals.

Why is improvement a given?

Perhaps rather than just natural history, improvement will come because that's is what the club has been building and developing over the last few years.

Just a thought.

I guess the thinking is the deployment of a few "safety nets" of opinion now will give some posters an easy landing if 2017 does turn around.

Unfortunately for yourself and others you have well over committed to your cause .....

Nah I just we think have a slightly better list, we'll never challenge for a premiership under Bucks watch. Sorry.... my opinion only of course, but in my opinion for him to coach a flag... he'd need a walk up start list, which we are no where near. He just doesn't have the tactical flexibility within him nor the people skills to ever get the job done. Happy to be burned if it ever comes to pass,k but it won't.

Slight improvement only, no real capacity to win a flag, ever.

not many rookies make it into a grand final team and not many players have 10 year careers. If you assume most of the players who have 10 year careers are likely in their prime when they win a flag, its entirely understandable that few premiership lplayers would still be at a club 6 years later.

The thing that is remarkable is that people still judge this team as if they are a premiership caliber team not performing. That hasnt been the case for years......
