just when we're all getting fired up for the new season to start, our bumbling friends at asada might steal the limelight with their issuing to dank of a "show cause" letter for 34 anti-doping instances at essendon.

I often wonder if the big business interests of the AFL and NRL backed by a new Liberal government are the real reasons ASADA have never taken advantage of new laws that would have compelled Dank to answer questions about his involvement in this whole affair.

Really it's in fat Vlad and Co's interests that he never speaks to ASADA.

Doubtful that ASADA would try and go easy, since they can just be overruled by WADA if they think it necessary.

Post subject: Dank issued show cause noticeReply with quote

AFL 360 just announced Steven Dank has been issued with a show cause notice for 34 breaches of the ASADA anti doping code.
Apparently the sun have said all 34 breaches relate to Essendon.
The process now Dank has 10 days to respond to each alleged breach. Failure from him to do so ASADA can use its new power to force him to explain in front of a court setting.
Dank has stated several times he won't respond to ASADA as he says he hasn't done anything wrong. He has threatened legal action against ASADA if they try to get him to testify at any hearing they conduct.
As for Essendon this is the beginning of what looks to be infraction notices being issued to 14 of there players.
The timing of this again seems to be sensational for publicity for the public to think ASADA is showing there teeth.
Funnily enough I feel for the players as I have stated several times in other posts.
How the AFL handle the situation now will be interesting.
Will they live in denial still or try to cover it up again or will they finally admit there is a huge issue with the doping at Essendon and have a plan to protect the code.

I think the AFL are in a real tight spot... like tanking.

If the AFL admit there is a drug problem or a 'cheating' problem then it could possibly open up all sorts of legal holes and they could potentially be in breach of their media contracts, sponsor contracts or anything.

To be honest with you, any alleged cover up I think would come from the AFL's legal teams who would have given them long stern legal advice about what could happen if they admit to anything, such as cheating/drugs or tanking.

Expect the AFL to come out with 'the AFL will let ASADA run their investigations' and 'the AFL will not get involved' or something like that.
