Not many. I just go off the results. If you're implying that this means I'm lacking nuance, then you're probably right—but this can only ever be a rudimentary exercise.

I know you likely watch a lot more football than I do, so please feel free to post your own form ladder! It'll be interesting to compare.

So, Essendon 14th, then? That seems about right. I probably over-estimated them last week when I said 7th to 12th.

Probably 5th or 6th after this weekend. Certainly seems like they should drop, but I'm not sure which teams could possibly replace them.

Some big changes this weekend, particularly in the bottom 10:

1. Hawthorn
2. Geelong
3. Fremantle
4. Port Adelaide
5. Collingwood
6. Essendon
7. North Melbourne
8. Sydney

9. West Coast
10. Adelaide
11. Richmond
12. Gold Coast
13. St. Kilda
14. Western Bulldogs
15. GWS
16. Carlton
17. Melbourne
18. Brisbane

Sydney, Adelaide and us have all moved up, while the Gold Coast, Bulldogs and GWS have dropped three places or more.

I'm working under the presumption that the result of the Geelong–Hawthorn match will be pretty close. The Cats would probably have to win by 30+ points for me to consider knocking Hawthorn off top spot, and I think it's safe to say that won't happen.

Very surprised to see you put Essendon so low—they beat North (5th), lost to Hawthorn (1st) by under a kick and beat the team two places over them by nearly 100 points. Gold Coast, too, have only managed to beat the bottom four teams on your ladder (though I'd have Richmond a bit higher than that).

Ah, well I guess there's the key difference. I'd probably agree with you within that framework, though I might still put them a little higher. They were pretty competitive against us.

Round 7:

1. Hawthorn
2. Port Adelaide
3. Geelong
4. Collingwood
5. Fremantle
6. North Melbourne
7. Sydney
8. Essendon

9. West Coast
10. Richmond
11. Gold Coast
12. Adelaide
13. Carlton
14. Western Bulldogs
15. GWS
16. St. Kilda
17. Melbourne
18. Brisbane

Top 4 remains pretty settled, though there's little gap between us and Fremantle. North stay in 6th despite their surprising loss to the Suns while Sydney and Essendon swap places. I'm starting to think that that's probably going to be the top 8 at the end of the year (with West Coast possibly displacing Essendon). Can't really see any of the teams from 10-18 making it, good performances from Richmond and Gold Coast this weekend notwithstanding. I'm starting to think that the Bulldogs will be this year's North Melbourne, constantly losing close games against better teams.

Gold Coast are presently 5-2. They just beat North by seven goals in Melbourne. Their next three games are; StK, WB & Adel. Not inconceivable that they may be at 8-2 (or at least 7-3).
I don't think it was surprising that GC easily beat NM. We also made them look decidedly second rate. I really don't think NM are that good. Somewhere between 8-12 in my humble opinion.

See my post in the other thread regarding the Gold Coast. While I agree with you that they could be 7-3 or even 8-2 after ten games, they still won't have beaten any decent teams apart from North and will likely struggle when they come up against any other team from 1-9 on my form ladder. I still don't see them finishing in the top 8—probably 9th to 11th. Though, I just checked the fixture, and their absurdly easy draw might admittedly see them sneak into 8th.

As for North, they're a wildcard as always. Yes, they lost this weekend and we made them look ordinary, but they're still the only team to beat Port Adelaide and also got over Fremantle in the west (no easy task). Oh, and they made short work of Sydney. I considered dropping them to 7th or 8th, but I can't think of a single team that's been more impressive than them. Certainly not the Suns.

wb are playing some good footy. they just cannot close out games. north are simply inconsistent, dropping games they supposedly shouldn't. ess were ordinary for the majority of the game on saturday night and made to look second rate.
