I was hoping for us to get into the bottom of the 8. What I wanted to see is the team play for the coach and the team to have structure. I think we are well on the way. This is a development year for a young team with a coach in his third year of being the principle coach.
If we continue to develop to our potential we will be a true challenger in 2017 onwards.
We are on track which is a real positive. |

The other day Pickers said ( and I agree) that the three best teams in the comp are Hawthorn, Sydney and the Dockers. Then you can throw a blanket over a group of teams who could come fourth and the Pies are in that group. If we get Reid and Greenwood fit and firing and don't lose any other valuable players I can see us making the prelim. |

Face it, last year we under-performed, partly through injury, partly through inexperience. This year it was always reasonable to expect an improvement from the youngsters (hard to guess which ones, of course, but it was virtually certain that a half-dozen of them would come on nicely) and a better team performance overall.
As things have turned out, we have gone pretty much as expected, with some unexpected bonuses and some disappointments.
On the worse-than-expected side, Sidebottom has done very little (because of injury) and Greenwood nothing; Reid ditto though no-one would have counted on him anyway. Broomhead has disappointed, ditto Witts (both inj at times), ditto Keeffe (susp), ditto Freeman. (Others have disappointed also, but these are the unexpected ones - Blind Freddy expected (for example) White to do nothing much and Young to do less, and Blind Freddy was right.)
On the better-than-expected side, we have had the emergence of Crisp, Blair's improvement, and a remarkably solid backline emerging from the chaos. Oh, and biggest surprise of all, the return of Swan, who is suddenly as good as ever and making last year look more and more like a blip rather than a terminal decline.
On balance, we are tracking as expected. |
Sean's return to form was no surprise to me. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

Realistic comments. We are just getting to the point of being able to make a serious challenge for the flag but not quite there as yet. We will get even closer next year but geez, 2017 onwards looks brilliant at this stage of development. However as we all know, a lot can change, especially if those still out to get Bucks have their way to disrupt proceedings.... _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Where has the zero option gone?
Realistically I think we can win two of the next four (GWS and Port). Unless we catch Freo and the Hawks on bad days (for them) I can't see us beating them. But hey if we win the next four we can seriously talk about a possible top four finish. _________________ You can keep your Locketts. There was only ONE Gordon Coventry! |

What that means Donny is if we lose the next two (Freo and Hawks, as expected) we can go from 4th to 10th!! Interesting season isn't it!

But the Hawks had a bye, so will probably be just one win behind us after next weekend. They also have a much better percentage than us, so if we slip up they will no doubt shoot past us on the ladder. All we can do is keep on winning. |
