^ in that case I probably expressed it badly. I was reacting to .David's straw-grasping point above :

"I think that's a great point and a rarely discussed benefit of immigration: keep the gene pool diverse!"

My point was broadly the same as yours when you pointed out that diversity brings new diseases as well.

Past a certain point, a diverse gene pool just brings new illnesses and difficulties, as well as strengths. It only "improves" the gene pool if natural selection kills off the bad stuff before it breeds. We talk about diversity as though it is a secret sauce that improves everything. It only does if certain conditions apply, and those do not apply (fortunately) in any modern society.

Not Syrians but this is the sort of crap that needs to be considered.

'Fake' Iranian refugees reportedly allowed to stay in Australia

Six Iranian refugees who were caught travelling back to the country where they claimed their lives were in danger have reportedly been allowed to stay in Australia.

The group have been accused of lying on their visa applications after voluntarily returning to Iran on holiday despite having obtained protection visas based on fears for their lives, News Corp reports.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton is considering what he will do in response to the reports, 9NEWS understands.

Generally you'd think this would be grounds for visa cancellation, but unless we know why the court permitted them to stay, we can't really assess the adequacy of that ruling.

The Turnbull government will pay $70 million compensation to refugees and asylum seekers detained by Australia at Manus Island, after a Victorian court officially approved the settlement on Wednesday.

Law firm Slater and Gordon said it was believed to be the largest human rights class action settlement in Australian history, brought on behalf of 1923 asylum seekers held on the island between 2012 and 2014.

It's more like $100 Million as the Government agreed to pay Slater and Gordon costs of $20 Million. To add the cost of implementing the compensation scheme is estimated to be another $10 million.

This was settlement agree to by the Commonwealth to avoid going to Court knowing they have breached Australian Law.

^ there has always been big money in Socialism if you can become part of the nomenklatura and get your lips around the taxpayer's udder. Whatever laws allowed this to happen need to be reformed, and/or the politicians who acted in default of the law need to be prosecuted. That $90m of taxpayer's money can be lost like this without accountability being sheeted home to someone is unacceptable. That we merely shrug shows what.drones we have become under the master state. It takes our money by force and gives it in massive quantities to vampire lawyers and illegal immigrants, and we just recline and watch The Block.

And where would you place our legal friend P4S on the spectrum of underwear stains?

Not so much a stain, more like the underwear.

Pair of old jocks, tad frayed and the elastic is starting to go, but still has a few good wears left. Razz

Never forget that this was a settlement. The government really didn't like the consequences of fighting this case.

Hope that this money gives the people in question a bit of a head start when they finally get out of their island prisons and some compensation for the years of evil they've suffered.

Why specifically do you hope for that this money gives the people in question a head start when they get out of their island prisons and some compensation for the years of evil they've suffered?
