Negative comments seem misplaced. We have got nowhere our best team in. They had close to theirs. I noticed definite improvements in our playing style. I liked the knocks on, and I thought we showed a significant development in the way we got numbers to the ball in perfect position. Our anticipation of ball movement and where to get our numbers seemed excellent. Also thought our marking around the ground was excellent, and far superior to last year. However I am concerned at how our lines were ripped asunder far too often, with our backline totally open. Why did this happen?? Not the fault of the defenders, but rather of the team defence structures. That is disappointing.
Also concerned at the lack of firepower up forward. Cox did not provide enough to compensate for his relative immobility, and Moore needs more support.
Pluses and minuses, but not a disaster.

Outcoached and outsmarted in the 3rd quarter after a huge 2nd quarter and I know it's only the 1st game and it's a long season. Next week won't be easy and neither will Sydney. But I'm sure Eddie crosses his fingers and toes that it will change INTO it's 6th year.

How does a great club allow itself to get into this position. Is it because of one person, a bunch of mates, is it faith or just an ego...what is it?

4 points woulda been great. Could easy have won and we won't get a better chance to catch the dogs than round 1. Such a game of inches this game. It's only week one however and there was plenty to be positive about. Grundy huge. Pendles huge. Lots for the coaches to work on before next Thursday. I'll be disappointed if we can't beat Richmond.

Buckley won't far a more important game than next week. No victory there and he has the Swans in Sydney and Saints away to follow.

Sorry Medders but can't believe you thought Grundy was poor. I thought his ruck work was first class. He is the reason Pendles, Treloar, Adams and co got so much of the footy.
Cox wasn't great but his ruckwork has improved significantly. He'll be ok.

So did Pendles win the medal?

If we had have won and a Bulldogs player got the medal we wouldn't hear the end of it from the a$$hat three.

My thoughts:

Blair enough said
Cox vfl only
Maynard learning but hopeless under pressure
Phillips good improver
White an average handy player
Moore see white
Taylor over rated since debut but worthy a spot on the list
Fas would be an asset for gws, maybe not in fact he needs to play park footy to enjoy himself in this game
Grundy is handy only
Sidebottom where are you when the heat is on?
Jeremy Howe thank god you play for us
Like wise skipper and smith
Shade and Maine good debuts
Trelor hard to assess,
Crisp needs to try harder as he has little skill reminds me of Goldsack maybe a little under done perhaps
Reidy nothing to fear with him ever
Ramsey shit haircut shit game
Varco good hit on #6 but they'll throw the book at you, no thanks to that x captain you made famous

Good
Pendlebury - sensational, 3 votes if the umps paid any attention
Adams - terrific in close
Fasolo - 21 touches, 3 goals, should have been 5 at his skill level
Sidebottom and Treloar - very good
Phillips - rising star chance
WHE - neat debut
Howe - great intercepting, disposal not always the best

Poor
Blair - should not play unless massive injuries
Moore - couldn't catch a cold
Cox - likewise
Varcoe - will have at least 2 weeks off and shouldn't be an automatic in when it expires
Crisp - poor skills
Goldsack - nice goal, very little else
Grundy - want more impact around ground

Out: Varcoe, Blair, Cox, Goldsack
In: Aish, Elliott (if fit), Broomhead, Scharenberg

Grundy was ok, aside from that agree. Broomhead hasn't played has he? Cox ok in the ruck but with our poor defence across the ground he is a liability, Moore will have to give Grundy a chop out. Didn't think much of Schade..

Real teams get key forwards. We get an experiment in Cox. Nuf said. We're not serious in chasing premierships.

Buckley, just go. You won't get them into the finals. Spare us the bullshit media conferences. Bring Paul Roos to the club before we are forced to rebuild again. Richmond will tear us a new one next week.

Yeah cos they played such a quality opponent last night. Shut down Dusty and there was nobody else.

So we get beaten by the reigning premier in RD 1 so let's sack the coach. Real intelligent.

Collingwood will be 0-4 after four rounds. We will struggle to win with a pathetic defence and a forward line that can't score in a brothel, depending mainly on our mids to score goals. How do you dominate with 18 more inside 50s and lose is beyond me.

BUCKLEY IS CLUELESS.

Bucks still can't coach - easy goals over the top - with coast to coast goals.
Team selection - too many talls on the forward line - Cox/Moore ineffective. Blair not up to it.
Umpiring - pathetic - just unfair.
And yet we only lost by 14 points.

Easy goals over the top is just part of the game plan where you apply the press. Just takes a bad disposal and your history.
Agree, umpiring was pathetic and crucial decisions going one way.
Young Moore just couldn't get into the game,, must give the dogs credit for not allowing Moore any space while shutting down our ball carrying capacity. Big Cox was Ok, I'd persist with him and Grundy. The season is long and hopefully we get Elliot back soon and Aish wouldn't hurt either.

Didn't take long for the sycophants to come out. Mediocrity is applauded at Collingwood these days.

Same old same old. Appalling skills at times, poor finishing, lack of composure at key moments, and an "honourable loss" that's defensible. All hallmarks of the Buckley era, one that will go down in history as one of the biggest wastes of time ever.

I completely agree

We've been treading water with these 1-2-3 goal losses for years now

Nothing ever gets better...

Guess we just got nutted at the clearances

Did you watch the game? Pies smashed Dogs at clearances. That is not an issue. As some have said the team is unbalanced and has no go to forwards.

The transition defence is still appalling.

Yet...we were in the game and had we been a bit cleaner could have won.

This is the conundrum under Buckley

We will know more at Rd11 but the inclusion of Wells Elliott and JDG will be helpful.

If easy goals over the top are part of the game...where the hell are ours? EVER?
