I don't understand this obsession some people have with Scharenberg. Sure, he was a brilliant u18 player, but since arriving at Collingwood in a wheel chair having operations on his feet, then having not one but two knee reconstructions, the poor kid has virtually no lateral movement and couldn't run out of sight in a fortnight. His lack of pace and physicality was exposed for all to see against the Dees, which led to his dropping from the side. Sure, he plays well in the VFL, but that's because there the game is played in slow motion. I really hope the kid makes it, but honestly he is not up to it atm, so please, folks stop trying to pump him up.

You forget he's been two years out of the game and needs time to adjust to the pace of AFL footy. He won't get that playing VFL footy. Sometimes as a coach you need to project in your mind a player's potential assets towards the success of the team and go with your hunches even though short term it could hinder the team's success. Same with Callum Brown. If players like Brown and Scharenberg are seen as best 22 players you just need to play them until they come good. You may be wrong about them but you don't die wondering. That's what makes a great coach.

up until this weekend lots of posters were crowing about the demise of the Hawks and yelling about our improvement.
Yet the scoreboard shows 5 wins each.
Who will win....close call but I would say Hawks would be ahead on this.
Wonder if we drop our heads from now or play with more freedom.
Just checked sportsbet.
Hawks 2 dollars
Pies 1.80
so we are slight favs.

Considering that before yesterday our results in our past 5 games were a 3 point loss, 3 wins and a 4 point loss, there has not been any reason to make changes, except if they were forced by injury or match ups.

Now that we have had a loss in a game that we never really gained momentum at any point of the day, changes should be made to reward players that have been playing well at VFL level.

Callum Brown has had 2 games at AFL level and will be given areas that he needs to work on by the coaches. I would suggest that he will go back to the 2's for a few weeks and work on these areas before getting another crack at AFL level later on in the season.

Crocker has been OK in his games, but hasn't significantly impacted the games that he has played.

Aish and Broomhead will also be nervous about keeping their spots for Hawthorn.

Cox must come in to reward his good form in the VFL, however I believe he is a liability at AFL level as a forward, as he is unable to assist us in putting on forward pressure and locking the ball inside forward 50.

Mayne should be given an opportunity, otherwise why did we recruit him.

Scharenberg and Kirby will also be considered.

this is really funny, because if you were coach for a week and then this happened, then two weeks from now you could ask to be coach for the week and your changes (for exactly the same reasons) would be

In: Crocker, Brown, Aish, Broomhead, Phillips

Out:Mayne, Kirby, Ramsay, Cox, Scharenberg

Fact is, we do have a number of players who provide limited contribution. Its likely that all of these changes do nothing more than change the names of the folks providing that limited contributions.

I'm glad you are not gunning for Langdon like everyone else. I would encourage you to look more closely at the games of Phillips and Broomhead. Didnt think either were that bad and Phillips in particular was one of the few who was able to run and shut down his opponent all day.

I'll give Langdon the benefit of the doubt after his error-riddled display and assume it was second game back blues. He and Broomhead are also on thin ice.

I think Cox may prove a liability again, but 6 goals is not to be denied, and maybe he is developing toward a breakthrough. In any event, the cricket season beckons so we may as well continue to experiment.

I don't particularly care if we win or lose on Sunday.
What I would love to see however is Luke Hodge battered from the outset.
Play our toughest hungriest side.

Greenwood can play a forward tag on him, play Maynard forward as well so he is close by and just pound this thug into submission.

Burgoyne needs to have a defensive forward tag on him. He was the catalyst in their win against Adelaide. Greenwood perhaps?

If we can shut down their older brigade then their younger blokes don't step up to the plate as often.

We play like we did on Saturday we will get flogged.
