See Albert Parker. Smith should never be in our best 22 (and neither should Blair).

You’re entitled to your opinion, but with the likely injuries I’ve noted, I don’t see any of the omissions ahead of them.

Nathan Buckley has confirmed Jamie Elliott and Daniel Wells won't play Round 1 against Hawthorn, following the Magpies' morale-boosting win over the Bulldogs at Moe.

So... you'd rather Blair running around thieving more oxygen, instead of getting game time into Daicos or Crocker, for example?

Isn't that a surprise?! Not.

"See Above"
When in doubt, refer back to the OP's "New Year's Day" BEST 22!!! Razz

In essence...
NEVER play Cox as a forward unless he's in white-hot form and the weather is BONE DRY...he's otherwise purely a back-up RUCKMAN to Grundy.
Moore is a natural FORWARD and a 200cm chop-out 2nd Ruck to Grundy.
When Scharanberg is fit and available...HE PLAYS.

When Wells, Elliot, Fasolo, De Goey, Schranberg and Wills are available...they come in for Round 1 starters Smith, Crocker, Cox, Aish, Stephenson and our unlucky 23rd best player on the roster, Joshua Thomas.

Rinse and repeat. Our best 22, is our best 22.

It is FANTASY to believe Mason Cox is the answer as a key forward, on a greasy night after it's been pouring rain throughout the day. You can't polish a turd.

FFS's Bux...sometimes, just sometimes, 1 + 1 = 2.

Yep, said before the game you don’t play a seven foot beanpole in the wet. Especially an awkward one! Dumb.

We need to stop excusing individuals (and blame the collective which is an endemic problem in today's society) for poor performance. It wasn't the fault of the weather. It is not the fault of Buckley for picking him for the game. It is squarely the fault of Cox for not being able to glove the ball. Sure the ball was damp and difficult to grab. There were 35 other players out on the field. They were able to mark the ball. Cox is a foot taller than most of the other players so if anyone is able to grab the ball against an opponent he ought to be able to do it. He needs to address the situation that he let the team down (which I'm sure he's doing) and redeem himself when he gets back into the team.

We are at a point in our great game where premierships and great victories are no longer won on talent alone. The last two premierships will confirm that.
Premierships are won on on the back of sustained pressure and effective zone structures that continually hold up against the oppositions pressure.

We have shown that when we apply good sustained pressure, we are conpetitive against the best, regardless of our ins and outs. ( we haven’t had near our best team on the park for 4/ 5 years )

Our real failing is our lack of any effective structures or “ zone protection planning “ as some call it. One of the obvious benefits of an effective structure is that it continues to work even with a couple player ins and outs.
Get our structures right, apply sustained pressure “ all “ day and the last thing we will be worrying about is who comes in and who goes out.
