anyone notice how rarely the ball goes out of bounds. its funny to watch AFL players use their skills to keep the ball in rather than out. It just shows that 80 per cent of times when the ball goes out of bounds, it is deliberate! this rule would make an amazing difference to AFL football. Defensive teams would try to run a playter out of bounds and the ball would need to be used by the attacking team more up the central corridor to avoid a turnover.

Agree with you. Only issue I see here is that when a defender makes a good spoil and the ball goes out of bounds due to that, the free is unfair on the defender as it could be similar to him letting the player take the mark, albeit with the different angle.

Any injuries?

Not a minute? So how did u vote?

And no, no injuries. In any Thurs games. It's low contact, perfect for pre-season conditioning & checking out draft picks, not just ours. It also addresses the areas where we specifically need improvement. Kicking, both set shots & field. Quick decision making. Moving fast & straight (rather than stuttered & backward). Spoiling to advantage. Chasing down & tackling, and Contested marking. Inability in these areas, esp. the first, has cost us too many games, too many seasons. AFLX suits us well, which is why I fully expected to see it shitcanned here, only the extent surprised me. Sometimes I think there's nothing the club & too many supporters won't do to avoid success. There is a real, psychological fear of too much success as it brings exposure, scrutiny, and enmity. It traces back to the late 20's when we felt we had to apologise for playing 6 straight Grand Finals, and where the hatred of Collingwood began.
Anyway, we aren't all like that, some are just plain negative Smile

wasnt a big rap for it when watching it on TV on Thursday night.
Interestingly what I thought was missing was the clearance specialists and stoppage work to clear the footy - this is what the AFL hates.

Going to the games live however was very different. I see it as a pre-season conditioning game that seems to have less risk of injury. The teams that had practised and built a team for it looked very good and was very entertaining. I also liked watching 6 diff teams on the one day.

I love AFL.
AFLW makes me feel sad.
AFLX has a lot going for it. It's new and people hate change, but I think that over time most will embrace it.
The game I have really warmed to is Women's Rugby. The sight of well-padded refrigerators lumbering toward one another, then crashing to earth, has a strange fascination for me.

I've never tried it, but I'd be thrilled to hear of your experiences.

I believe John Candy enjoyed it.

So 67% of respondents don't want this form of the game. (69 votes... for obvious reasons, we now analyse the result Shocked )

Pretty much lines up with most of the polls I've seen, but slightly less than the 90% of people i have spoken to.

Where does this leave the concept? Can it and/or will it survive?

Surely not?

This an excerpt from an Expat in Borneo who coaches and has played the hybrid game in SE Asia that this game is based on. Make no mistake, It is not an invention of the AFL

Its fast and quick, the players dispose of the ball quickly, however didn’t see any big marks or big player clashes etc, I didn’t think it was all that interesting and not very spectacular to watch compared to the full size version…

So if the expats don't think it is that good compared to what they already play. Amongst other observations made that it is formulated game that has more to do with keepings off.

Anyone who has been to the International cup would appreciatet that kicking is a skill hard to acquire unless growing up with it. Hence overseas kicking a goal from outside 50 is banned in games where expats play.

I was in the boonies of Thailand and didn't see it but apprently missed nothing. Except Collingwood still can't kick and Maynard should never be played back again.

This is the type of warped and dangerous thinking that occurs when all one cares about is numbers or equivalently money. I mean, "don't care about AFL fans because they'll be dead soon enough"??

What a stupid arguement. 32 years ago, there were 8 million less people in Australia than today.... where did they come from?
Probably a cultural background that follows soccer Confused
And just how many millions are going to come from "The slums of Rio?" Rolling Eyes

These people didn't need/want our game destroyed by small minded peanuts! Did they Evil or Very Mad

Previously the same guy said the following (on "What sport will look like in 2032").
Quote:
...
Long gone are the days of 2014 when organisations such as the AFL (the Australian Football League – dissolved in 2023 when FIFA and in its wake the FFA closed the first of many lucrative global sensoring deals) fought in court battles with their franchise clubs over the alleged use of performance-enhancing supplements. Little did they know that a global soccer plot to eradicate domestic football codes was well under way.
