I have always been a great fan of Varcoe.
Tonite he looked more like the mummy with his bandages all over his body.
But he is no longer a great player and is probably over the hill.

Never started, really. Played a good first season for us and has been living off it ever since.

Yes, looks that way. He’s replaceable.

Pressure OK. But that was all he offered. Needed his skills further up field perhaps?

McAvaney loves him and especially loves bringing up that grand final in 2011 and how great he was then. I've lost count the amount of times he's raised it.

Cant lift arms above shoulder height. great player, but when you cant see a player for all the strapping, it might be a sign ....... his key asset is speed and you can tell he is scared to run at top speed for fear of tearing a hamstring.

best days behind him and might start to be a liability.

Still the only player we had to match up on Burgoyne, who was carving us a new arsehole...

His first season was reasonable and probably only appeared better because quite frankly we weren't expecting much to begin with.

He layed a couple of good tackles last night but did little else and finished with 7 possessions and 0 goals.

The biggest problem with Varcoe is that he simply doesn't kick goals and as a forward that's a problem.

In 48 games for the club he's kicked 18 goals.

In comparison he kicked 62 goals across 44 games in 2010/11 for Geelong.

Fair to say that player is long gone.

I think he's close to the end, but in fairness he doesn't really play forward all the time for us. Spent plenty of time on the HBF and wing over the last few years, including a tagging job last night.

Varcoe is fantastic and hope he stays for as long as he can. Didn't have a big match last night but he really cleans up in pressure and tackles. He's as hard as a cats head - something we need more of.

Sadly, Langdon has looked all at sea the last two games. I was going to say in one of the game threads that perhaps at this time Langdon should either be the spare man in defence or take the worst opposition forward. I was then slightly perturbed by the possibility that Burgoyne actually was their 6th-best forward; I do hope that's not the case.

He better not be. We've (purportedly) just re-signed him for another year...
