Amazing effort by Phillips to be third on the pies list
Has a tank and a half.
Beat sidey in the pre season gallop.
I must watch more carefully his endurance like I have with Sidey over the years.
Just spend a lot more time looking at him and watching how he moves.
Should be interesting.

Coaches votes mean that only Phillips, WHE and Sidey got votes from both coaches.

5 Phillips. Phillips
4 Maynard. WHE/Sidey
3 Grundy. WHE/Sidey
2 WHE/Sidey. Pendles
1 WHE/Sidey. Adams

Wowee, I thought Grundys game was sensational... but hey, wtf would old skidsy know Cool

^Agree Skids, but suspect he was a victim of the absence of Sandi in his comparisons.

I was about to say, I thought he was arguably BOG and clearly better than Sidey. He seems to continually be marked lower by the coaches than by most of us. Not sure whether it's Bucks or the opposition coaches, but it's interesting.

Also, Cripps is demonstrating the immense advantage in an award of this type of being a barely competent player in a garbage team. While Grundy, Pendles, Treloar and Sidey have been sharing the votes around between them, Cripps has been given the sympathy allowance.

Na, he's a gun. I'd also say the "player on garbage team gets all the votes" effect is more than cancelled out by the "don't give votes to players on the losing team" effect. I think Shane Crawford was the last player from a non Finals team to win the Brownlow and that was 20 years ago.

^That's perfectly accurate, except that your post doesn't account for my "Put the boots into a Carlton player gratuitously while his club is down" rule. I assure you that if he came to Collingwood, all such sins would be washed away.

That said, there's an element of truth in it in this context. In the Brownlow, there's only spots for three votegetters, whereas in the Coaches' Award up to 10 players can get votes, so if you want to give a sympathy vote to a losing Carlton player (or, for that matter, a slow, outside Brisbane mid playing a pointless role in a useless team), you can.

Phillips best on two weeks running. The kid's been good for a while, but is playing so well now that it can't be ignored.

But Cripps is the only Carlton player worth paying attention to from the opposition, making his performance even more meritorious. He is a beast.

Wines and Wingard best for PA.

-------------

Ablett is having a blinder.

Near full time and he has 34 disposals (16 contested), 8 tackles and a goal. Higgins is North's best but his team is getting trounced.
