That is great news – even with our back 6’s rock-solid work this year, Scharenberg’s presence has been sorely missed. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Can add Wells to the injury list now. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

I wonder how severe it is? The players and Bucks all surrounded him after the game, seemingly giving their commiserations. Yet, there was no ice and no obvious limp?
I definitely don't want to put the mozz on Daniel Wells, because he showed in the first half how influential he can be. However, if it is a serious knee injury, I wonder if he would retire and give us a crack at the mid-season draft, ala Heath Grundy and Grimes? |

Bucks said there was some damage to the knee, but they're not sure of the extent of it yet.
Regardless, I think this will be his final year. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Would have been possible, but we already have a pick if we want to use it via Dunn's injury. _________________ Well done boys! |

And Derek sounded non-committal about taking even one pick.
I don't think they could get a definitive verdict on the injury in time for a pre-draft retirement. |

Ok, so both AFL and VFL games have been completed. Both great wins.
Unofficially, this is where we should be at:
Taylor Adams - Groin (TEST)
Mason Cox - Ankle (TEST)
Darcy Moore - Ankle (TEST)
Jordan De Goey - Shin (TEST)
Tyler Brown - Shoulder (TEST)
Matt Scharenberg - Knee (TEST) Was reported that he may play in the VFL today. Was listed as 4 weeks away.
Flynn Appleby - Ankle (2-3 Weeks) Was a test, but had a setback
Jamie Elliott - Hamstring (2-3 Weeks) Still two conflicting reports. 2-3 and 4-5.
Nathan Murphy - Ankle (3-4 Weeks) Was 1-2 weeks, but had a setback
Tom Langdon - Knee (TBC) Club still deciding between rest Vs surgery. Surgery will fix the problem, but will cost him a lot more recovery time.
Daniel Wells - Knee (TBC) I'm just hoping it is not all over.
Will Kelly - Hamstring (TBC) Didnt look good. Commentators seemed to think it looked like a 6+ week injury. But will wait for scans on Monday.
Lynden Dunn - Knee (Season)
Tyson Goldsack - He copped a heavy hit and looked to be vomiting or struggling to breath. Went into the rooms, but returned to the match and was fantastic in the final quarter according to the VFL forum.
Brodie Grundy - Nose. Coped a whack to the face, but played out the game. Might have a shiner today, but he's a-ok.
With Varcoe available, it'll be interesting to see if Adams or anyone else is rested an extra week. Surely we wont make 5 changes. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

The AFL site is reporting that Wells suffered damage to his PCL and will consult his surgeon today. If he has surgery, that may well be that. If it can be managed without surgery, a PCL typically used to be about a 6 week injury (at least for younger guys of ordinary playing age). In the last AFL injury list, Riewoldt was listed as 4-6 weeks for his PCL. I see he hasn't played since round 6, so that probably makes his an 8 to 10 week injury. If Wells can get back, you'd think he might be on the park between about round 16 and round 20, if all goes well. That's not a great match-fitness base for a finals campaign. |

Why the lack of details on Langdons injury? Don't they use WebMD? _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

^ They don't want to worry all the Future Captain's haters with the possibility he may return this season and lead the defence through another finals series in which the opposition averages 10 goals per game against us. I mean, why would you want to worry people about a nonsense idea like fielding the best available team in the finals if it were going to interfere with all of the counterfactuals about how much better than Tommy every other defender on our list really is? |

How bad is his injury? The info from Collingwood is nonexistent. |

It’s a PCL. The question was surgery or management. See the general “injuries” thread. |

Recovery from non-surgical treatment takes about six to eight weeks, and you can return not only to normal activities but to sports activities as well. After PCL reconstruction, you'll need six to 12 months for recovery.
So it all depends on the severity of the injury.
Lower grade he can still play this year, a higher grade tear and he is gone for the year and for all time I would imagine |
