Just looking at some numbers and I see that Grundy leads our contested possessions this season with 134 ( Treloar is next at Collingwood )
His numbers sit him just inside the top 10 in the AFL and the next best ruckman is Stefan Martin with 101.
Yeah, he might have some work to do in regard to tapping to advantage but all his other numbers are in a world of their own when compared to other ruckmen

Ayuh. I get it. Linus Toravalds might have some work to do in regard to tapping to advantage but all his other numbers are in a world of their own when compared to other ruckmen.

According to The Age voting he isn't in our top three so far this season.

That just makes them stupid.

Not many would disagree with that. I looked for Grundy's name at the top of the list then just kept working down.

He's easily our most valuable player.

'Best' is like comparing apples to oranges imo.

In the alleged battle to decide the all-Australian ruckman yesterday, Grundy had 11 contested possessions, 38 hitouts and 7 crunching tackles. On the back of his physical dominance, Collingwood won the clearances 45 to 26. Gawn won the hitouts for the first 5 minutes, then Grundy wore him down and bulldozed him into the dirt. Another fine effort from our most important player. Although the statistic doesn't matter in itself, the fact that Gawn gave away 4 free kicks and Brodie received 5 (all, I think, in the ruck contests) is indicative of just how difficult mere mortals find it to play against Brodie, son of Odin.

Just to emphasise how good he is, in the first 8 rounds of this season he has had 2 of the best 20 all-time hitout tallies by a Collingwood ruckman, including the best of all time (58, against Footscray). He now occupies 15 of our "top 20" and 9 of our "top 10". In fact, it's 11 of our "top 12".

He is the only Collingwood ruckman ever to have 50 or more hitouts in a game - he has now done that 4 times.

He has had more than 45 hitouts in a game 11 times. He has done that 7 times in his last 24 games. The only other Collingwood player who ever had more than 45 hitouts is Darren Jolly (49 against Hawthorn in 2012).

And the good news is, we play the bulldogs again this season.
Get those typing fingers ready again after round 14 😀

I'm trying to work out how Goldstein once had 80 hitouts in a game - must have been a mud-wrestle.

I remember that game well. I just couldn’t get my footing right in the centre square that day 😉

I'd say he's the best in the competition.

He's the best, but need Cox in the side to reduce his workload.

Reid is useless in relief and Roughhead is too valuable to risk as a back up ruckman.

Without Cox, Grundy will wear himself out before season's end.
