Shocked What a peanut!

$1.2 million per year??

That would put i the same class as Pendles, Dusty - players who have runs on the board.

The guy kicks 5 goals in a game and people are falling themselves with superlatives.

Clubs have to careful with offering big $ to kids. Looked what has happened to the Doggies and Tom Boyd. Not much return on investment there.

I agree generally with your point. I’m not sure about the weight of the Boyd example, though. They may never have been a proper football team but they managed to win a Grand Final, with a huge impact from Boyd. Even if he never plays another decent game, he was worth every cent they have paid and will pay.

If his old man really runs around half cut saying things to small crowds which prejudice his son’s relationship with his employer, I suspect we have an insight into the problem right there, and the boy probably needs a role model of the type that Buckley can provide. Whether he has the good sense to take it, of course, time will tell.

Totally agree about the old man ( IF ITS TRUE )
You see it time and time again, these young men are nearly always by products of their parents.
Talent alone isn’t good enough to make it in the AFL. You need 100 % commitment and dedication if you have any aspirations to being the best you can be.
Why shouldn’t Collingwood take a measured approach in deciding whether he is prepared to give himself every opportunity to be the best he can.

I remember people calling bs on the story about Daisy drunk before the start of his last season at Collingwood at a Carlton do on a table singing 'We are the Navy... " telling everyone he was going to join his dad. u know the rest.

If De Goey de goes then well, such is life. Until it happens, he's a required Collingwood player.

Lets all calm the flip down. It’s round 7, his Manager has put the feelers out, doing the right thing by his client. His sole focus will be to play his best cos he owes us and wants to earn respect back and that also ups his currency. If he flies for the next 10 weeks and we do to, he’ll want to stay and we’ll want to keep him. It means we have to pay what the market demands. So be it.

Ah, this story again. Do we have evidence it is true, though? Just because he did end up leaving doesn't mean he definitely did the table karaoke.

Oh, and is now a good time for me to mention that Daisy is on The Footy Show right now? He doesn't look as old as he sometimes does. Maybe they have good make-up artists.

you honestly think he got drafted number 5 in the draft on talent alone. There are tonnes of lazy ass kids out there with Jordan DeGoey's "TALENT" who never worked hard enough to become great football players.

So let's cut the crap that DeGoey hasnt "worked" hard to get where he is today. He;'s worked a damn sight harder than all of us, of that you can be assured.

I do agree that to become truly great, he will have to outwork even the elite workers. The true greats work harder even than their own peers (all of whom worked really hard to get to where they are).

But let's not bullshit ourselves into believing that Jordan's work ethic isn't already off the charts relative to us!!!! And let's make sure to acknowledge that as flawed as his father seems to be (based purely on this conjecture), he must have instilled some great qualities in Jordan for him to have risen to the level he has risen to, given the depth of quality in the league and how hard everyone who makes it works to get there.

Firstly, I’m not sure whether comparing DeGoey to you or I is relevant. He was blessed with an elite athletic gift, I know I wasn’t.
So I will put it to you that the talent and work ethic that’s gets you through the TAC and very early AFL years, is nowhere near the effort level required to still be successful in his mid, late 20s in the AFL. You have young men working their arse off to be the best they can, if he doesn’t evolve with them, the game will pass him by, literally.
Harley Bennell was a number 2 draft pick, being recognised as having talent because you were a high pick doesn’t guarantee you anything in footy.

Let's cut to the chase here and compare one elite footballer to another. It took Stephenson 4 games to kick 5 goals in an AFL game while it took De Goey 4 years before he kicked his bag of 5 goals. So what was it holding De Goey back if it wasn't because of lack of application and hard work?

FFS peoples. Jordy is a gun player right now with the potential to be one of the best in the comp. We know that, Bucks knows that and Jordy knows that. He can also be somewhat of a dill, which is not uncommon amongst footballers. With his contract coming up for renewal it's natural that his manager would test the waters to improve his bargaining position. Let's all calm down and wait for it to play out. There's a lot of water to flow under the bridge before this gets resolved. FWIW, I reckon JDG will remain a Pie and become a Premiership legend.
