He has t been “excellent all year”. He’s been OK when he hasn’t gifted the opposition 8 goals a game from turnovers. His 38 disposal game last week was execrable. His game tonight was adequate. |

I'm starting to like him more, but if our team had a player to play the Clinton Young role for Hawthorn where he trips up and goes to ground in the goal square, costing his team the Grand Final, it would be Phllips.
He has improved a lot though...he knows how to find the ball, and gets to the contests. Just hope he keeps improving. Areas to work on are contested ball, strenth/power in the contest, decision making, and depth in his kicking. And of course keeping his feet.
Improve all that and he could elevate himself close to A-grade. |

I'm not his greatest fan and don't think he is best 22 but yesterday he looked every bit a part of it. Confidence looks up and disposal has improved as a result. Happy to be proven wrong! _________________ Fault finding is like window washing. All the dirt seems to be on the other side.

I think any top 20 draft pick putting up the numbers he does having played less than 40 games of football would be spoken about more often.
He has seemed to improve on any problem in his game - disp eff being one.
I think the game he is playing allows Crisp to play off half back. Id suggest he'd be one of the first picked each week at the moment.
Go to footywire afl stats comparison. His stats including meters gained and eff are up there with the elite 2-4 year players in the competition. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

The Mongrel Punt published an interesting article about a week ago in which last years rising star award rankings were reconsidered, based upon this year's form. On this year's form Tom Phillips was ranked number one. Looking at the other names in the list I wouldn't dispute that.
He has some deficiencies in his game but they are far outweighed by the positives. |

He reminds me a bit of Shane O'Bree.

He’s a f’ing jet. Can’t understand the negativity. Runs all day forward and back and has a highly respectable top speed (not that I’ve noticed it watching). Has the odd clanger, but outside of Pendles and maybe Wells who doesn’t?
Having listened to his The Boardroom podcast it is clear that this kid comes from a solid family and has a good head on his shoulders and life well and truly in perspective. Personality-wise (not playing-wise) I see a bit of Nick Maxwell about him and I will be surprised if he isn’t drafted into the leadership group in the next couple of years. _________________ All We Can Be |

I think you have Phillips confused with another player.
Langdon gifts more goals per game than any other Collingwood player this season (go check champion data stats for turnovers for goals and goals conceded by each player per game)
Philips mind goes to quick for his feet and hands at times granted but he's young, he's got a great engine, he's endurance has allowed us to actually use Sidey to his best potential and finally he he's getting better each week. Give him another 30-40 games and he will really start to shine to his full potential |

Phillips is the prototypical modern football player. Endurance machine who can simply get to more contests than other players. Just like Sidey in that regard.
He is clearly in our best 22 these days (likely in our top 15). So is Thomas by the way.
Also, he and Thomas are our two best goal scorers in the chaos ball play.
These are the two most underrated players on the team. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

you know the ball that comes forward and is being scrimmaged around the forward line either after a dropped pack mark attempt or following a stoppage until someone grabs it and throws it onto his boot. I think about 12 of Brisbane's goals came that way. Some players just have the ability to find a yard of space to throw it onto the boot or are calm enough to make the goal out of nothing.
Phillips is very assured with that type of snap around the body off one step. They go through nearly every time for him. Thomas is the best at it. Wellingham was also good at it way back when. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Just gets in the right position to get the ball all day long, whether it be fitness or nous or a combo of both, he is always...just there!
The tendency for the occasional clanger will go down once he gets to know his own limitations, but what an absolute steal at pick 60ish _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"
