Evans is ex-AFL and not stupid. He will be the main decision maker, not Evans.

EDIT: For clarification, the not being stupid was independent of being ex-AFL.

Do you mean "not Cochrane"?

Yep.

There’s no way Thomas is getting traded he just signed a contract and is our best small forward at the moment by far.

I'm not against signing Lynch (though I do think we could make bigger improvements for smaller outlay), but there is a possibility he makes our forward line worse and not better. Big men cast a big shadow and completely change the dynamics of your forward play.

With both Cox and Lynch up forward how much time do Stephenson, WHE, De Goey etc get as the deepest forward? Certainly less than they do now. How much of our ball is now lazily directed at our contested marking behemoths instead of looking for the best option? How much space does the extra big take away from our other quality forwards? What impact does another tall have on our forward pressure?

Lynch is a very good player, but it isn't as simple as: add a very good player to our forward line and it's even better. If we did get him we need to work very hard at keeping the variety and mobility intact, moving him out past the 50 for significant periods. Not sure how good he is up the ground, but if not at all he's not going to work. I'll use the example of Daniher, the Bombers forward line is working better without him. When he's there he just dominates it and the other players don't get much of a look in. A good day for Daniher means a win, but a bad one... We'd need to be much smarter than that if we do sign Lynch. Another example: look how the Eagles fall apart when they lose Kennedy. Such a reliance on one player is a major weakness.

Our forward line is functioning beautifully this year. Even when adding a very good player, it takes care to improve what we have and not pull it apart.

Its not a massive risk. Pick 3 isn't that valuable to them and the team who wants Lynch will make sure a deal is done. Very rare for a trade to fall apart and a player go to the draft.

Who's worth more? Weller or Raynor? I'd take Raynor any day of the week. We got Pendlebury at pick 6. Massive understatement stating pick 3 isn't that valuable. This is going to be a massive draft coming up. Clubs underrating it will do so at their peril.

Yep, to put it in perspective, Raynor would go something like pick 7/8 in this draft.

That's my point. To state that pick 3 in the forthcoming draft is not that valuable to GC is a bit ridiculous. True what Inky says, GC has had a bucket load of draft picks and blown most of them. That's due to incompetence, not the lack of value of those draft picks. If we had picks 2 and 3 in this year's draft it would set us up for life. Look at the Buddy draft when Hawthorn had the 2 high top 10 draft picks. If you traded either picks 2 or 3 in this year's draft for a mature player you should be certified insane. Gold Coast won't contest finals for at least another 2-3 years minimum. If GC are so desperate for a mature aged player to replace Lynch do a Brisbane and get a Hodge for nothing, or a North Melbourne and get a Waite for pick 50.

If we traded players like Thomas to the Gold Coast it would be a sell out comparable to what Essendon did way back in 1986 and you can forget about premierships for the next 4-5 years.

Wouldn't throw the kitchen sink at him, but should still be a target.
May is a much better fit as we are pretty thin down back next season with Dunn and Shaz gone.

Pick 9 for May would be the priority

Pick 18 before free agency occurs would be good.

That was me, re: Pick 9.

My glass half empty with lipstick stains and a chip on the edge has us finishing 9th.

Master stroke.

No, pick 18 is about right, but tell Gold Coast we're tanking next year so to expect pick 1 if it expedites the trade.

West Coast go ok with a couple of gun forwards. WC in '92 were said to be the protoype for modern footy. Mobile ruck, mainly adaptable midfielders. Then along came Lloyd and Lucas, Brown and Lynch, Tarrant and Rocca, Hawkins and the bloke who cost us the GF by getting injured, Buddy and Rough. It goes in swings and roundabouts.

Slobbo tweet: Choco Williams tells 5AA tigers been working on Lynch move for at least two years. He says he will be at Richmond
