Dear Mr Cox,

If 125 years of blood, sweat and tear sounds whimsical, then your time at the Pies has been wasted. What is whimsical is your lack of forward pressure and zero tackle count.

Perhaps another long stint at VFL level would bring you up to speed with the proud traditions and culture of the Collingwood Football Club.

If our theme anthem is whimsical I shudder to thing what you make of Anzac Day. Our anthem goes to core of our club's soul. If you don't get this, then you are frankly a liability.

These comment relate to Mason's remarks on the Fox Footy show The beep test.

Put the pitch forks away. It's a light entertainment program hosted and run by comedians. In context, it was a harmless exchange. I chuckled.

Nothing to see, move along.

Agree. I thought he acquitted himself well on the show and this comment amongst others made me smile.

I have the original vinyl single from the 70's. I also have a newer version which I play LOUD after every win. I've known & loved that song for 50 years. It means more to me than the National Anthem... by a mile.

But to get your panties in a bunch over a throwaway line by a guy who is one of the nicest blokes you could meet, is just being a sook. He is a complete gentleman, unfailingly kind, and much loved by his teammates.

PS: If you think Mason has done nothing, you haven't been watching very carefully. He has changed games just by being there & creating a contest. the opposition is terrified of him. He usually draws 2 guys to him, leaving someone else free to kick a goal.

If you can find me a better player after less than 30 games who'd never even played it 5 years ago I'd love his address! Look at what he does now averaging about 8 touches per game. Imagine when he gets that up to 20! And he will!

This is a really odd response and shows how even the slightest cultural differences can cause misunderstanding. in this case i feel it is by you.

I am super impressed at the manner in which Cox has worked very hard to fit in culturally in Australia. So many parts of the aussie culture do not come naturally to yanks so he has done an amazing job of fitting in.

He did not insult the theme song. Please don't take his words out of context. If an "Australian" said that, i suspect you would not have had the same reaction.

To the tune of Goodbye Dolly Gray, it’s hardly gunna strike fear into the hearts of opponents is it

Jesus is this how cult members think? It’s ok to find your team song a bit quaint, naff (let’s face it, most of them are) or even bad. God spare us from the self-anointed pharisees who would crucify someone else for not thinking the way they like.

His comments are treasonous and the Club must take action. The traditions of our Club must be respected and no player is permitted to make comment or question our glorious history and rich culture.

This post isn’t for real, right?

And to clarify his ‘whimsical’ comment, he was referring to all clubs. Let’s face it, club songs are akin to a beer drinking ho-down singalong.

I was in a museum in Tampa Florida last year looking at paraphernalia from the US-Spanish war over Cuba in 1880 and one of the songs used to rouse the US troops was Good Old Dolly Grey (ie Good Old Collingwood Forever).

So get over Mason's comments!
