I know we are very critical of the club from time to time about recruiting, training, development... well, basically everything, but i thought it was worth reflecting one more time over just how brilliant this trade was and has turned out to be.

We didnt want to trade Beams, and probably suffered over the past 4 years for not having him next to Pendles and Sidebottom. But boy oh boy, did what we get in return for giving him up turn out to be GOLD!!

And still with lots of upside....

given it was his first week back, i thought he did really well.

But seriously, this is one-sixth of our starting 18.

Agreed. The Lions have only got 50 matches and issues out of Dayne and you suspect as an “old” 28 year old body and mind wise, the end may be before 30 years of age.

Interestingly, he played the same opposition 2 games ago and, in a game that the Bears only lost by 14 points, his ruckman won the hitouts 63 to 20 but he only had 17 disposals and couldn’t go with Macrae, who had a quiet 47. Last night, Macrae still got his uncontested ball but he won a third of the number of contests that he won against the Bears.

I think the Bears will reflect on their decision to recruit Beams as a stupid one. He’s played 45 games in 4 seasons there for 7 wins and 38 losses. Dale Thomas was finished by injuries before he left us but even he has managed 70 games at hapless Carlton for 20 wins and 30 losses.

The Bears problems don't relate to the recruitment of Beams. They're more to do with their rentention of players. They now have one of the best lists in the competition and two gun mids in Raynor and McCluggage who have signed contract extensions. Beams was the captain before he gave it up. Win for them. Win for us. All trades should be this good.

If we could get two elite players and a solid one for every slow outside mid we have on our list, that’d be ok. Imagine if GCS had done this deal to get Danny Stanley! We would have thought that was hilarious - yet Danny played nearly twice as many games for them as Beams has for the Bears.

No one gives up what the Bears gave up to get a bloke who manages 8 games a season.

Crisp alone is a win for us.
Greenwood has been useful.
De Goey is the bonus.

Bit of a nil-all draw, that one, wasn’t it?

Sorry- 20 W, 50 L. It was the 20 wins I was intending to highlight.

I think 3 players will always trump one player,no matter how good that player is.So yes,it's a win for us.And to be honest i'd rather have DeGoey now than Beams, and that's not even counting the other two players we got.

Correct me if I’m wrong back Jack Crisp has not missed A game since he joined us. A very underrated player by the way. Since his permanent switch to halfback he has been a gun.
