I'm interested to see where Nicksters fall on this test. A little long (117 questions I think) but you just click a box so doesn't take long. Gives you a flag and motto too which is kind of cool.

No sure how to post it, but the results for all of us would probably be predictable from the various posts made.

I came out Fatherland-order-work. Which will please P4S as it makes me sound like the Nazi he loves to imply. The Nazis, of course, were not at all in favor of order, being a revolutionary socialist movement , but let that be.

In terms of the scales, I came out higher on
essentialism 62%,
punitive justice 57%,
conservatism 43%,
nationalism 53%,
capitalism 55%,
regulationism 36%,
productivism 33%,
reformism 57%.

I guess that is consistent with “cautious reformism in light of the traditions and shared meanings of our society, accepting that there is such a thing as irreducible human nature”, aka Burkeism, which is about right.

As with all these things, one always answers with the phrase “Up to a point, Lord Copper” ringing in the mind. “Sabotage is never acceptable”.... which is correct, errr.... Until you are occupied by a hostile power, etc.

Interesting stuff! Some challenging questions, though sometimes the (apparently ESL) wording was a bit confusing:

Here are my results:

http://www.politiscales.net/en_US/results/?s0=76&femi=38&b1=5&b0=64&t1=43&t0=14&e1=33&e0=21&p1=19&p0=38&m0=81&c0=36&c1=19&j1=10&j0=48

“Humanity – Justice – Socialism”

Constructivism 36% – Essentialism 19%
Rehabilitative justice 48% – Punitive justice 10%
Progressism 76% – Conservatism 0%
Internationalism 64% – Nationalism 5%
Communism 38% – Capitalism 19%
Regulationism 81% – Laissez-faire 0%
Ecology 21% – Productivism 33%
Revolution 14% – Reformism 43%

(Note: perhaps the most interesting thing is the amount of grey area between each pole – so, for instance, I’m really more of a fence-sitter when it comes to constructivism and essentialism, even though I lean a little towards the former.)

Yes, I didn’t quote that, but the very highest I came on any scale was 62%, with lots of grey. There is no truth without context, etc.

As for “humanity, justice, socialism”... leaving aside “socialism”, it’samazing the way the left has appropriated appealing language whereas the concepts allocated to the Right - which I regard as far more conducive to human welfare and happiness - sound almost mean. From that emotive brand management a whole history of human sorrows has been propagated.

In lieu of “fatherland-order-work” I propose “Place-peace-prosperity”.

Yeah, good point.
Interesting that they chose "Fatherland" instead of "Motherland", "Country" or even "Patriotism".

There is a very badly split infinitive in question 39.

Me too which was surprising since I live in country as a retired expat and that country is under military and shared Royal ruld. And I have to pay taxes in 2 countries and recieve benefits from neither eg Medicare. And was a paid up volunteer for the Australin Sex Party.

I think the survey could do with a tweak. Such things as the right to arm bears, should religious institutions pay taxes like private companies, Indigibeous rights, media control etc might have tilted the scales for a lot.

Why is this? First, is there no tax treaty between Thailand & Oz? And could you not fly back to Oz for (say) some medical operation if needed?

Some medical illnesses or injury require immediate attention and others would mean tou can't fly. Travel insurance is not adequate and the medical insurance here makes it nearly ipossible to claim. I pay income tax on super payouts despite paying tax when I earnt the contributions and the earning made on company dividends.

The tax in Thailand is largely VAT. Almost all national parks etc have a tered policy where non thais pay more. Tourist can claim the VAT back but I can't.

When I do go back to Australia I do get my Mum to book me in all sorts of bulk billed places but specialists and surgery procedures can take years despite what the Government says. In rural areas particularly.

A mate has flown back with kidney and heart issues that he couldn't afford here. But he has nowhere to go for respite care (despite his sister being a widow and inheriting 220 million bucks of her late husbands property slumlord, er sorry developer assets). His daughter is dead.

Self funded retirees are being screwed by banks, governments whomever. I can claim nothing. It changes a bit when I turn 60 and I get a nice tax return but i can;t vote unless I travel 2 hours to embassy and any services I use I pay for. It costs over 50 dollars for a witness to a statutory declaration. A day wasted once a year.

Without owning aproperty it is almost impossible to live on what I am left with tax. I can not access anything at centrelink except medicare which I pay for. Try getting on the free list for specialist help. My 83 year old mother has waited 18 months to see a surgeon for her shoulder.

Thank goodness for the extra 10 bucks a week I might get which is somewhat negated by the Government driving down the Australian dollar.

Declaring yourself a non resident for tax purposes is a disaster.

If all the retired expats suddenly came home all hell would break loose.
Rental properties will be reclaimed.
Public housing will be demanded.
Medicare claims will escalate
the PBS will go broke. (eg I can buy medicine for a quarter of what I pay in Australia and that is on the PBS.

The Government should be encouraging (single people in particular) to look at overseas retirement and not pulling this bullshit about downsizing your family home to free up the property market. Why should people leave a home of 60 years with gardens and familiar neighborhoods. So the remaining money can be stolen by greedy financial systers posing as banks.
