Actually, if you are such a mediocre team that you make the 8 on percentage, you can’t win the flag either. So the right answer to your puzzle is that neither am can win the flag. 20 years later need this finals system proves that point.
Even though the dogs won from seventh, I think you’ll find they were two or three games clear of ninth. |
Unless like usyou had a brave run at it with a lot of players missing! Still, you said if yourin the 8 doesn’t matter where you are, which is true, but if your on the same points as the 8th team, but .01 percent lowere, your gone!
The dogs were given the win the first year everyone had a bye, negating one of the advantages of finishing top 4, they also received an astounding 250 extra free kicks for the year.

And yet to everyone’s annoyance all season, the pies did not spend one second focused on percentage because it doesn’t matter.
We wound down every match this year once victory was secure.
I know you obsess about it, but the team doesnt and the coaches don’t give a shit about it.
Eagles, tigers and pies still favored to win flag, even though both eagles and tigers percentage cost them tiny perceived advantages (to you and your parrots).
Why? Because those advantages dont matter.

How do you know we didn’t when we put Adelaide to the sword in the second half? In the end that winning margin was close to being the difference alone between finishing 4th or 5th, and I think it’s perfectly plausible that our approach might have been different if our position had already been secured.
In the end West Coast were a serious premiership contender who have been seriously disadvantaged by not getting the double chance. Try telling them that percentage doesn’t matter.
