Let me guess...torn retina and Cox-like surgery required.
In all seriousness, I hope you’re reporting on a minor, trivial incident. _________________ Est. 2002 |

He could play with a patch over it and still be one of the BOG.
On that, Cox looked fine to me in a recent post on twitter, could we be foxing and actually bring the big fella in at some stage in the finals?
I mean, it's not like your going to strain an eyeball in a game, is it!? _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

I don't often have much to offer but I'll weigh in on this one as an eye guy -
He would be a very slim chance for clearance if we made the gf - that said it would be very risky - the retina is like crepe paper and would still be healing.
I believe he only had to have laser to retinal tears and not invasive surgery for a retinal detachment but as I understand he had both eyes treated not just the left one he got poked. I wonder weather he's short sighted and so prone to tears hence the issues in the other eye too. He'll be fine down the track but you don't want to rush him back at the expense of his eye sight. Full retinal detachments can form / start from tears and if your macula peels off - your eye sight will be permanently damaged to varying degrees. I'd put a fork in him for the greater good. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

Brodie will be fine. I'd be more worried about Mason's eye. Speaking to a doc the other day, very high possibility of permanent damage with his injury. He is very conspicuous by his absence by the way. |

He has been forbidden from anything that evelates his heartrate. How long would that usually be for?
By the time he's allowed even to run again, he'll have lost all conditioning. |

Stationary Bike work, pool, - that would be about it a present I would have thought. Nothing that would "jolt" the eye / retinal tissue. No weights either initially. But without seeing him it's hard to talk absolutes.
If he'd had a retinal detachment it would be a good 2-3 month injury.
With tears he should be able to start some work after 6-8 weeks or so and build from there.
Think of it this way - the ACL is only a little ligament but has big ramifications if damaged- the eye is a little the same. It may not hamper him physically but the importance of being able to see speaks for itself. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

I'm surprised he didn't have an ambassador role when the US basketball team was at our game, especially when a few of them were in the rooms afterwards. The AFL dropped the ball there.
I had a mudlark scratch my eye, and the eye doctor said I was very very lucky I didn't lose my eyesight. Just missed the cornea, but scratched enough like when you stick your nails into a blanket and pull on it. Permanent ripples. |

I've had several procedures done on both my retinas as a teenager.
My procedure required cryotherapy (laser treatment) whereby they seal the tears &/or detachment.
The Professor who operated on me at the Eye & Ear way back when, advised me to only do 1 eye at a time.
Normally, 2-4 weeks recovery for us plebs but takes longer as you do tend to have blurry vision for a while afterwards.
Eye growth typically stabilises by age 20 to 30 which is why I haven't had any further issues.
With the eye being very delicate, it does look a lot worse than it actually is.
I think with Cox playing AFL which is obviously quite physical, he will need 6+ weeks to recover fully (he did both eyes at the same time did he not?) so doubt he will be back for 2019.
Poor bugger must've saw so many floaters & flashing lights when it happened, he would've crapped himself! _________________ WE WERE ROBBED, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, RIGHT IN FRONT OF MEEE!

Geez, just reiterates the fact there's millimeters between seriousness sometimes.
I was surfing at Yallingup once in the 80's in real heavy conditions.
I got wiped out on a sneaker and when I came up, my board slingshotted back at me on my legrope and hit me on the side of my nose, about 10mm from my eye.
It pissed blood and gave me a cracker of a black eye, but if that old Cordingley had hit my eyeball, I'd be the ultimate one eyed Pies fan! _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |
