When a player takes a mark, but the umpire pays a free to the same player, is that player still credited with the mark? Or is it just credited as a free kick?

Sad

Thanks Dalyc.

Kind of shitty when a player takes a strong grab (WHE in last quarter today), but the ump pays a free to him for holding.

Dumb really. Penalising the player receiving the free. Should be an automatic "advantage" and mark paid.

Been wondering about it for a while now. Robbing a player of a contested mark.

How does it disadvantge the player? They still get the ball.

Oh, you mean on the stat sheet? I bet that keeps players up at night.....

Yeah, I'm in favour of the mark being paid, but AFL umpiring is technical.

Also adds a free to the stat sheet that at times is an "even up".
Always annoyed me, should be the possession earned rather than rewarded.
