<Split from post-match thread vs Richmond. Thanks, David for BBMods.>

Can't believe that Higgins goal is allowed - he clearly threw the ball - no ifs no buts.

It's the same thing the cricketers do when they catch the ball going for six without going over the boundary line. First time I've ever seen it at footy but don't think it actually breaks the rules. It's not a throw because the ball is released from the hand in the action of then kicking the football through the sticks. That's legal to me but I expect an official response from the AFL on its legality.

Overall, thought Richmond got the better deal from the umpires today.

That kid and his "sausages" can fk right off!! I was filthy about that. Crucial time too when they were responding with quick goals every time we kicked one.

Re: Higgins goal....I am happy to allow it as it was a brilliant piece of play and will be goal of the year.

It was a "throw" cum drop on the boot. He didn't throw it to the advantage of another player. It was a "exaggerated" drop to his advantage.

It was therefore a throw to his own advantage.

It's either legal or it isn't. He threw it up. If he only dropped it there's no way he'd have time to circle around before it hit the ground. Great goal indeed, but I'll be angry if it gets goal of the year tbh.

Goal of the year so far should go to Myers from Essendon or Jack Steven.

You throw the ball onto your foot when you kick it. Expecting a ruling from the AFL but as above I think it's goal of the year.

No, you drop the ball when you kick it. Tossing it up is how a 5 year old kicks when they're learning.

Slightly grey, but I think you’re allowed to throw the ball at your boot. If Didak or Daicos had done it, I’d have been ok with that goal.

It was a throw. Even Higgins thought it was a throw. He said as much in his post match interview. Umps missed that one.

Just looked it at again. He threw it up. That's a textbook throw.

Gary Ablett senior once won mark of the year for a mark over gary Pert that wasnt a mark. I guess now we can have a goal of the year that isnt a goal. Not sure how that beats the goal of Josh Thomas a couple of weeks ago
