I wouldn't be surprised if Kirby is delisted and rookied. It would be a positive move to allow him to concentrate on his health and getting it right instead of worrying about what he's going to do for work... And if he can get right, he's shown enough talent to warrant inclusion and repay the faith.

We're a club that has shown it stands by players in times of hardship - look at Thomas and Keeffe... I can't see us doing any differently.

Just been reading that Quaynor has been moved into the mid field in the last couple weeks and he has acquitted himself very well in traffic. If that’s the case, then that starts to make him a more desirable prospect if we end up giving up our first rounder for him.

Add these two to the list
#9 Sam Murray contracted until 2018
#18 Travis Varcoe contracted until 2018

I believe these two are contracted beyond 2018
#32 Will Hoskin-Elliott contracted until 2019 or 2020,
#44 Jack Madgen contracted until 2019

Thanks. Someone on BigFooty may wish to post the errors below.

The BigFooty link appears to be incorrect re Varcoe when I look at the source linked: http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2017-09-22/trio-of-pies-resign

so I will fix that up.

Murray also: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pp-collingwood-magpies--samuel-murray

WHE: unless you can link me to some other source, both BigFooty and footywire have him at 2018 so I will keep it at that until we find a source. i do note that Jon Ralph didn't mention him as a priority signing, so it may be that he has already signed quietly.

Madgen: unless you can link me to some other source, both BigFooty and footywire have him at 2018 so I will keep it at that until we find a source.

Yeah, there are a few that aren't correct,
I don't have links, but been tracking players contracts for a few years,
As the CFC website does not list contracts,
It makes it a little difficult for people to know WTF is going on

Article from 21 June says WHE uncontracted beyond 2018: https://www.theroar.com.au/2018/06/21/theres-will-theres-way/

Can’t see a contract term in the original article re Madgen: http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2017-11-28/magpies-complete-list-with-exballer

Summary here too:

Thanks for the updated link on WHE, MM,
It's so painful that CFC don't have more relevant info about our players,
I don't think other clubs do either and most of the other websites aren't accurate, the last link still has MACKIE, Liam listed with us for 2018?
Info regarding Blair & Dunn's 2018 contract is impossible to find

Haven’t done the research yet, so I’ll pose the question ... which clubs have highly-rated FS/NGA players potentially making their first round picks easier to trade (so they pay points with subsequent picks)?

EG Norf and Taryn Thomas, Swans and Blakey, us and Quaynor

Might make sense to do something like our first plus X [eg our 2 thirds] for Norf’s first (Norf may want to ontrade that for a player and pay for Thomas with subsequent picks).

Would give us more chance of a “live” first rounder and then Quaynor, Kelly et al can be paid with points from remaining picks with any deficit carrying over.

Rhylee West will go first round ( Scott West’s son ) to the Dogs.
This kid had a great carnival for Vic country and I thought he showed more than Quaynor. They will go close together in the draft.

Bailey Scott ( son of North and Cats Robert Scott ) can go to three clubs because he is part of the Lions academy in Qld. I believe he has a preference to stay in Qld. I’m hearing he is likely a late first rounder but that was a while ago. Played very well for the Allies in the championships.

My order would be Blakey, Thomas, West, Quaynor, then Scott. ( Twomey currently has Quaynor a few spots ahead of West )

Cal’s top 25 form guide has:

Blakey 7 [11]
Thomas 10 [9]
Quaynor 11 [13]
West 15 [5]
Kelly 19 [13]

Will put club indicative pick in square brackets in a sec.

EDIT: An updated version of this is posted later in the thread with priority picks at the end of the first round.

Hypothetical Draft scenario based on R20 indicative picks and assuming GCS and CAR get priority picks and bids are made on FS/NGA players according to rankings in Cal Twomey’s form guide.

COL picks: 15 (1,112 points), 49 (287 points), 51 from Sydney (259 points), 69 (49 points), 87 (0 points), total 1,707 points.

FIRST ROUND:
1 CAR
2 CAR
3 GCS
4 GCS
5 BRI
6 STK
[7] [WBD bid on Nick Blakey (SYD) matched, 1,644 points less 20% = 1,315 points. SYD pick 13 =1,212 is extinguished leaving 103 points to come off Syd next pick 33 (563-103=542 which equates to pick 39).]
[8] 7 WBD
[9] 8 FRE
[10] [ADE bid on Tarryn Thomas (NM) matched, 1,395 points less 20% = 1,116 points. NM pick 11 (now 12) = 1,268 points leaving 152excess points which equates to pick 60.]
[11] [ADE bid on Isaac Quaynor (COL) matched], 1,329 points less 20% = 1,063 points. COL pick 15 (now 15) = 1,112 points leaving 49 excess points which equates to pick 69.]
[12] 9 ADE
[13] 10 ESS
[] 11 NM [Pick points used for Tarryn Thomas]
[14] 12 GEE
[] 13 SYD [Pick points used for Nick Blakey]
[15] [PTA bid on Rhylee West (WBD) matched, 1,112 points less 20% = 890 points. WBD match with subsequent picks.]
[16] 14 PTA
[] 15 COL [Pick points used for Isaac Quaynor]
[17] 16 HAW
[18] 17 ADE
[19] [GWS bid on Will Kelly (COL) matched, 948 points less fixed 197 points = 751 points. COL remaining pick value is around 644 points so there will be a 107 or so points deficit to carry over to the first round next year affecting our 2019 first round pick.]
[20] 18 GWS
[21] 19 GCS
[22] 20 RIC

A few takeaways:

1. If we match bids for Quaynor and Kelly then our "live" picks in the 2018 draft will likely be at the very end of the draft as we will likely need all our points.

2. On current CT rankings, Quaynor is likely to majorly compromise our 2018 first rounder.

3. On current CT rankings, Kelly is likely to slightly compromise our 2019 first rounder.

4. There may be merit in looking to move our first rounder up into the top 10 of the first round making is a much more likely "live" pick which would potentially mean getting a high pick draftee, Quaynor and Kelly in 2018. It would further compromise our 2019 first, but it is open to us to trade that pick and use subsequent 2019 draft picks to satisfy the carry over points deficit.
