No offence intended to Witts, but times seem pretty tough down that way. Do they have any leaders?

good on him - hope he does well. He has had a good year and only wish him the best.

Don't understand why anyone would scoff

He's had a very good season, is one of the best rucks going around at the moment. Good on him.

This, good on him, seems like a very genuine likable fellow, and it ain’t going to touch us.

And David ‘no offence, but’. Is as meaningful as a sorry with if or but in it!

^ Does it remind you of "I'm not racist, but ..." ?

I have to see if former Pie ticketholder Keating's takedown of that is on youtube...

Good on to him. Didn't see it coming either but good luck to him. He certainly seems to have thrived up north and wouldn't have fit in at all with us, so win win really.

To be fair, it's easy to remember Wittsy playing for us. Ruckmen take time, particularly big ones and Wittsy is a year younger than Max Gawn, bigger, and playing batter than Gawn last year. In the next couple of years he's going to be on of the top 5 rucks in the comp.

We let him go because we figured Grundy was a better first ruck for what we wanted and Cox better as a key forward 2nd ruck. I'm happy with both predictions and happy for Wittsy.

Good luck to him. As a genuine first ruck with limited flexibility he was never going to fit here. Always looked a quality first ruck and glad he's landed in a good situation (good for him anyway).

We all knew at the time that he was worth more than we got in a trade, but after this season that's even more clear.

Hopefully the Suns remember how cheaply we gave him away if we go to negotiate on Lynch. Wink

What I said certainly wasn't intended as a slight on Witts. He does seem to have taken his game to the next level at the Suns, and I never bore him any ill will at Collingwood (though Grundy was and is obviously on a much higher level in his development as a player – and I don't think we'll be making him captain any time soon, unless Pendles, Sidebottom, Howe and Adams all happen to fall over).

Think of it this way: if we made James Aish captain for a game tomorrow, you'd be justified in thinking that our club either had a long list of unavailable leaders or only a small number on the list in the first place. That's not to insult Aish, who is a good and promising player, but more a reflection of how far back in the leadership hierarchy a player of his experience would generally be, and an indication of the amount of leadership options a team has to call on at any point in time. Obviously Gold Coast has been gutted and this is just where they're at right now.

BUT if we made Dunn captain (assuming he was playing) you wouldn't be THAT surprised would you - he's clearly a leader in the backline. Sure, he's a bit older than Witts, but there are similarities. I'm guessing the things we know about Dunn that others might not appreciate may also apply to what Suns people (both of them) know about Witts. Maybe.

I think most people would be pretty surprised if we made Dunn captain next season. He'd be a pretty left-field candidate, not that there's anything wrong with that! But your point is a good one; and I guess we don't really have a clue what goes on behind closed doors at Gold Coast FC.
