I�m really surprised by the � assault �.
I have heard a number of times that Gaff is one the nicest guys you could ever meet both on and off the field. Very quiet and supposedly a God fearing Christian from way back.
Having said that, it�s got 6 written all over it, along with a huge dent in the Eagles premiership chances.

He should not play again this season, there is no excuse for a punch to be thrown that breaks a players jaw, what a joke saying he was aiming elsewhere, why was he throwing such a vicious punch in the first place?

Definitely the worst since Barry Hall. Not as bad as Matthews hitting Bruns. It is shocking to see a behind the play king hit which I thought had gone out of the game. I would give him 12 weeks. Disgusting act that has no place on a footy field. Never was ok and not now. Think of the one punch laws now and what could have happened...

Not that long since similar, it is absolutely identical incident to Bugg on Mills just last year, except this has resulted in a broken jaw, that resulted in concussion I think?

Times have moved on since the days of Barry Hall. 8-12 weeks is likely - but quite unfair. Fair is until Brayshaw is 100% recovered, and able to eat with all of his own teeth.

Back in the 60's and 70's it was worth 6 weeks. This kind of full on punch is so not like the game now,its inexcusable. Even if it was a brain fart, even if Gaff is brother Lee Love of the Christian world. The punch was nasty, the intent was there, the result was awful. Minimum 8 weeks for me, but 10-12 could well be considered. im sure he is remorseful, but dosnt excuse the actions..even if he was being niggled.

6 weeks? Some of you guys are kidding yourselves.

He smashed 4 of his teeth in, broke his jaw, ended the guys season. He�ll get 8-12. These days, the outcome is king, much like his hit.

Take out all the behind play niggle crap, Geelong and the hawks are king at it, it�s done to cause Agro. It shitsme when I see it, even when it�s ourplayers doing it. Most of us have only seen that small sliver of film. Before judging Gaffs character I�d want to know how much he was provoked. Still an over reaction. But we need the whole picture

I don't think it was worse than Hall's punch. Maybe an extra week for impact, so 8 instead of Hall's 7 (or just 7 because of his good record compared to Hall's poor one)? I don't think we need to get hysterical over this, though (life bans, etc.). It was a terrible thing to do, but it was also out of character and he's obviously remorseful. Give him a fair whack (so to speak) and move on.

Walters should get at least 2 weeks too for his square-up.
