Been saying it for weeks - this is not bad luck - this is a group of blokes who’s bodies just aren’t up to it

Reidy was always one of my favourites - I even went to stand in the refrigerator at Casey one day a few seasons back just to watch him in a "comeback" VFL game. When he first moved down back, I thought he might have been good enough to win a Brownlow from CHB.

Even so, a couple of seasons ago it was obvious that he was near the end. I made the mistake of saying so on here and someone ripped into me and said something about him only being 28 etc etc. That was right, as far as it went - 28, with the body of a 40 year old. I'll be very sad when he hangs up the boots because he has been a beautiful footballer. I think, though, that it is about time to accept that he's managed only 142 games over his career, despite his brilliance when he's up and about. Of those 142 games, he played 87 in 4 consecutive seasons from 2010 to 2013. This is his 12th season, so in the other 8 years, he's managed a total of 55 games - and 47 in the last 5.

I think we can persist with Elliot.

It’s difficult to carry chronically injured players on an AFL list. Big decisions need to be made on Reid, Elliott and Wells. Unfortunately I can’t see any of their bodies holding up to play consistently at AFL level. No matter how hard it is we need to let them go.

I'm with you on this .....pick one and let some of the others go with a big pat on the back and massive thank you.

Elliot gets the nod purely for his upside, age, xfactor etc etc.

Not as much as you'd think.

Obviously we would be better especially with some height down back, but the guys who have pitched in in the stars' absence have really stood up well.

We'd probably have Richmond's number - we're coming from about 5 goals back. But then Richmond aren't exactly the Hawks/Cats/Lions.

I think we can only afford to keep one of Moore, Elliot and Reid.

Reid's age puts him out. I think we have Elliot's position covered. But the upside of a fully fit Moore is something that will make us a much better side. His age also helps.

Its Moore for me.

Agree. With JDG, WHE, Stevenson and Mihocek we're covered for quick forwards.

We really need Reid to retire now and forgo his 12 month contract extension.

However, I doubt he'll turn his nose on his $500,000 contract.

Hopefully it was a performance based extension. Given his injury history, hope they were prudent.

Moore and Elliot stay.

Reid and Wells are a 1 year gamble. Both are contracted so unless they retire and give up the final year of their contract, we're paying the money in our salary cap whether we keep them on the list or not.

If we delist them, we can draft 2 more kids who're unlikely to play in 2019 anyway.

I'm inclined to take the punt for 1 year that if they can make the field they offer more value than a first year rookie would even if they only play a handful of games.

At the end of 2019 however...............

Reid was done last year- worth keeping as mentor to young blokes in VFL.

was an absolute champion at his best, yet sadly he has been nowhere near that for the past few years.

Didnt think he would play at all this year.

He is not a forward- cant kick straight

He is too slow and applies no defensive pressure- also why he cannot play back..

he is a floating defender- and behind howe and langdon there

Can you believe the back line we Haven't got!?!.....

Howe Dunn Goldsack (Appleby)

Shaz Reid Moore

To be where we are is testament to our recruiting and coaching staff.

The depth, that we've been forced to expose, is very heartening going forward.

A few more good picks in the drafts of '19 & '20 will ensure a fruitful decade IMO.

Very excited to have Nathan leading us into this period of total domination.

Go Pies.

Cannot say goodbye to Elliott and Moore.
Too much potential to do that.
Not the same for Reid and Wells, the game is too much for them to play now.
