It’s coming up soon and I feel there will be strong presence from our club

Very few players have nailed it in debut season or even gathered a big tally

But in our case a legend of our club the great Des Fothergill amassed 13 votes in 1937

How will debutant Jayden Stephenson go do you think❓❓

He will likely at least one BOG and maybe pick up one or two more minor gongs. I will tell you, that my sense is that Sidey and Phillips (early in season), Pendles, Adams and especially DeGoey and Grundy later in the season will be the dominant vote getters. And of course Langdon!

Can somebody tell me how Gawn usually polls in the Brownlow because that will indicate how Grundy will poll votes? I don't see why a ruckman can't win a Brownlow medal, especially a player like Grundy who is scrupulously fair.

Gawn had about 3 Votes only last season when injured but polled 16 votes (=19th along with Sam Mitchell and Jack Stephen) in 2016.

Gawn ($9 the win) will be a real threat this season to Tom Mitchell ($1.35) and Patrick Cripps ($7) I think. Clayton Oliver at $13 next line of betting.

Not as many possessions/clearances as Grundy ($17) but a more notable presence given his physical appearance and
150 more hit outs than Grundy 922 vs 772 (and Witts at No2) and
About 20 more marks (91 to 72).

Grundy has him well covered in
Clearances 108 to 51 and
33 to 17 in Centre Clearances and
Possessions 409 to 321.
Free kicks for 48 to 43 as well

Forwards and ruckmen generally don't stand a chance, and let's not even get started on defenders. If any of our guys poll, it'll probably be a mix of Treloar, Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Phillips and maybe Crisp. I suspect there'll be a fair spread and no real standouts for us.

Doesn't the Brownlow automatically go to the midfielder with the most possessions? Tom Mitchell will romp it in!

Stephenson does have blonde hair though - I understand that counts towards Brownlow votes, so expect him to get a couple.

Not as clinical as automatic to midfield—back pocket Bernie Smith (Geelong) my first recalled one
Back John James close on his heels

Thing that craps me is media high horse attitude if their sweet heart gets rubbed out with the “he was best player”

It’s pronouned “Fairest and Best”

Eric, i’ll Give you $500 vs you give $5 if Langdon exceeds 3 votes for the season! Deal?

I’d consider those odds. While I think it’s unlikely that he’ll get that many – which is no slight on him as a player, but very much a slight on the Brownlow’s midfielder bias – $5 at 100-1 is worth a crack!
