Post subject: Greenwood: The tagger | |
|
I think Greenwood showed last night that his best contribution to Collingwood will be as a tagger.
He doesn't offer much off the half back line and cannot kick for goal.
One player out of the structure doesn't destroy the gameplan.
Hawthorn have done it for years with Shileds, North do it with Jacobs, and Sydney have started to do it with Hewitt.
Take out their most influential player and the battle iss 33% done. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |

^Yes, he plays this role pretty effectively most of the time. Did well on Dustin Martin too until he got dragged into the goal square against him _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

He drives opponents bonkers. I didnt like him pushing Zorko when Zorko was attending to a sprained ankle, but otherwise, he is a terrific annoyance. He is very physical too, which opponents dont like. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

yep, i think when a player is on the ground out of play and clearly hurt, you leave him alone. also, if a player is hobbling to the bench, you leave him alone. Imagine a guy on the ground with a concussion and you push him around? imagine, even worse that he has a spine injury and you pile on. Low class stuff and potentially dangerous. When player is "in the game", he is fair game. When he is hurt, you leave him alone. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Interesting viewpoint. So in order to tie his shoelace he had to hobble to the bench and get his ankle strapped and he was pretty much done for the day. That is a pretty serious "shoelace".

Personally, I think tagging is grossly overrated.
However, some play makers are good candidates to be tagged. Zorko is one of those because he does most of damage on the outside and taggers have the time and space to work them out of position.
Players like Mitchell and Oliver, Parker Kennedy etc are much harder to tag because they do their best work in a phone box and the tagger finds it difficult to find the time and space to impede them.
I agree that Greenwood is our best but the idea of asking any player not to make the ball his only focus, doesn’t sit well with me. |

you are tough when you lay crunching tackles and are a force during the course of the game. When the opponent fears standing near the ball because they know you are around and will crunch them if given half a chance. You are tough when you take their best hits and smile at them (like - is that the best you got). This to me is tough. I love this stuff. I love that Greenwood is like this when he plays. I love that Maynard and Adams also play this way.
You are not tough when you push over a guy who is on the ground clearly injured. You might be annoying (which can be a good tactic if the guy is only injured in a minor way and he get's angry and it throws him off his game when he recovers). But you are not tough and it doesn't show mongrel. This was the case with the Zorko incident. I think Greenwood would regret it. I hope that he didn't realize he was hurt. He did seem to stop with the physical stuff after Zorko had words to him. Maybe he realized that he wasn't just tying his shoelaces.....
You are a douche bag and a sniper if you if you bump someone on the ground or trying to leave the field with a serious injury. You should be run out of the game for this behaviour .... _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

I’m happy to be corrected here but didn’t it become a reportable offence on the back of the Scott brothers and Mal Michael “ escorting “ an injured Nick Riewoldt off the ground many years ago.
IF IT IS reportable, then Greenwood needs to keep his niggling to himself.
We certainly can’t afford another player missing, particularly from a stupid suspension.
