Superstar is bandied around loosely by the broader commentariat (yes you bogans on Triple M whom recently called David Myers one) however Brodie is putting together two fundamental things:

1. High end elite performances
2. Unbelievable consistency

Despite recently re-signed, he should “always” have his contract rolled over 18 months early and be our next $1,000,000 born and bred player.

He will very possibly prove to be one of the greatest AFL players of all time. I said in another thread that he is a large reason why we are proving increasingly hard to beat : We have 19 players on the ground. One of them is a tap ruckman, who gets 30 hitouts a game and the 9 disposals, four marks and two or three tackles a game you expect from that type of player. The other is a very good mid, who gets 16 possessions, 5 clearances, takes 5 marks, and lays five tackles.

The thing is, the two players are Brodie Grundy, who racked up all those stats today. That performance today was monumental, and clearly the difference between the two sides. He is the type of advantage that premierships are made of.

I would put Swan and Pendlebury above him but if he continues on this path for a few years then you will be right.

Prime example of his awareness when he tapped at boundary throw in
then slipped fwd to a space and received a kick from scrimmage

Ball came to him and he marked and a goal result

For mine and I’ve seen Thompson and before that Neil Mann in 50,s

He’s the best I’ve seen

He's obviously an amazing player, but he missing a string to his bow and that's being a solid goal kicker.

I think Gawn will be tough to top for AA ruckman this year. Media has him signed up. But there is no way that Gawn does anything near the amount of work around the ground and clearance work that Grundy does. It is phenomenal how many clearances that Grundy gets and even the linking play around ground that he contributes to. Grundy has also dramatically improved his hit outs to advantage.

It's hard to get your head around his mobility and endurance when you've watched him come in last and second last (now that Kale Kirby is on the list) in the 3km time trials at training in the past 3 years or so.

Not disputing that - amazing player - just doesn't directly contribute a lot to kicking goals which if we're putting him into 'best player' since bucks you'd think as a tall ruckman would be part of his arsenal - which unfortunately it isn't - still amazing player. Who knows he's still young and may still bridge that gap in his game Smile

His athleticism allows him to tackle and times he is full stretched on ground after tackle butters up for hanpass to outside runners

And his tank is enormous allowing all day at his craft

^I think he is one of our better set shot kicks at goal. When we have Mason Cox up forward, I don't think it is vital that Grundy spends so much time close to goal.

Silly comparison, very different kind of player. But he is certainly the best ruckman since Peter Moore. And I’d say he is more versatile.

I don’t like these threads TBH, we don’t need to compare, just admire what a truly great talent he is in his own right. He amazes me, huge tank, those thighs, and yet he gets down low, just unbelievable and so so important. Just as Jolly was important in 2010. We are very very fortunate to have his heart and soul in Collingwood.

Further to what Mugwump is saying, we have four players in Cox and Grundy. Cox does both forward work and tap ruckman. The combination of both Grundy and Witts was never going to work because Witts can only do ruck work. But with Grundy and Cox you have almost the perfect combination. If Cox could work on his kicking a bit more and use the instep of the foot more than the toe of his foot, that would make it perfect.
