Gee there were a lot of western flogs at the parade today.
It is death or glory!
If we lose I won't be able to sleep for a week.
If we win I will be lying in the gutter somewhere ...drunk.
What a pleasure that will be.

McGovern looked as stiff as a board in the shots I saw of him on the news tonight. He'll probably play tomorrow, but it will be under duress.

Never heard of this chick before but she has serious pipes and sounds better live without the autotune.

If Bound for Glory was the anthem of 1990, I nominate this as the anthem for 2018.

Thanks so much for thils link Stui. I just watched the video. Fantastic song. It almost brought tears to my eyes because so many of the lyrics apply so well to our magnificent, astonishing team. Go Pies!!

He is probably pretending. WC propaganda. Don't believe it until you feel it, Pies!

What must we do to win? Limit their kick-mark game. Keep their contested mark count under 60. ...

In games this year when WCE have taken 90+ total marks, they are 15-0.
In our first final against them, they took 84 marks, I think. (It was 117 in the H&A game.)

Have a look at this article from early this month:

The mark of marks that drives West Coast’s success

I seriously don’t get this fixation with Kennedy and Darling. Sure, it could happen, they could kick a bag.

But we have Cox and De Goey. Quite likely to kick more than the other two. Or match, or not far off.

Imagine Cox and De Goey were on the other side. We’d be going weak at the knees about how we control them. Especially with WHE, Stevo, Varcoe, Mihochek, Thomas hanging around.

Our forward line is as good as theirs. Out back line not as good (although it’s clear McGovern won’t be at 100 percent - especially after he gets crashed into for the umpteenth time).

Our midfield is better and deeper.

We win this if injuries and umpires stay out of it.

The medicos will jab him up for the game, but of course won't do that outside games.

...regarding WC's marks
...and in the Round 17 game against the Pies, they took 115 marks!!
So we clearly drew lessons from that game, and so in the QF against them, we limited them to 84. I am sure that we are well focussed the necessity of stymying their marking. This in fact means precisely "playing the game on our terms", ie. ensuring that our deliveries hit targets, so that West Coast's uncontested marks are minimized and contests are maximised.

As always, centre clearances heavily in our favour will be a major assistance as will pressure on the ball!! We win the clearances and hit the scoreboard and we’ll be hard to beat!

The relevance of a high mark count with the Eagles is a double whammy for them. They are also rated close to worst in the comp for ground balls, so if they don’t mark it, there is a good chance they will lose possession.
It’s easy to say man them up and go one on one with them up the ground but it’s not that easy. The moment you go one on one, they divide and separate our back six and we get out marked by their bigger forwards on most occasions.

As a team collective, this is our biggest challenge. We need to win the ball back ( or don’t give it up in the first place ) without being sucked in to going one on one with them. They will just pull our defensive structure apart if our defenders follow their decoy forwards wherever they lead to.

Our biggest threat tomorrow probably isn't the influence that a McGovern or Kennedy can have but the influence of Hawthorn in how the 22 Eagles play.

Like Hawthorn they'll look to keep the ball out of our hands, control the tempo of the game and slice through our zones with an effective short kicking game and we simply can't allow them the time and space they grave with ball in hand.

Hopefully after all these seasons of struggle against Hawthorn Buckley has the answers to beating their method and the weapons within the side to do it.

Like last week 4 critical things need to happen to claim the Premiership tomorrow.

1. Be physically and mentally ready to play across all 4 quarters of football.

2. Play our brand and win the contested ball numbers and bring intense pressure on the opposition when we don't have the pill.

3. Kick accurately on goal and grasp with both hands the opportunities presented when we have the momentum.

4. 22 solid contributors. No passengers.

Oh and no in game injuries would be nice!

GO THE MIGHTY PIES!
