That you didn't hand the best team in the comp an upgrade via Kelly. Unlike the likes of GWS and Port giving the Hawks players for free.

Glad our Pie team didn't buckle and do anything too silly.

Yeah like WCE needed another midfielder in 2019 after retaining Gaff.

It's okay when Geelong want "their boys" to come home, but when it comes to showing some compassion for homesick players, they won't entertain it.

F&ck both clubs.

Poor form by Geelong really. They paid a pick in the low 20's for him.

12 months later they were offered 2 picks in the low 20's for him and a second rounder next season. This being a strong draft too.

Maybe they hope to convince him to stay in 12 months time?
Could blow up in their faces though if he is miserable.

But yes, it helps our case out next season.

Yeah, the ethics aren't great... but it doesn't strengthen the Eagles.

How so? I didn't think there were really extraordinary circumstances the player was facing.

Most likely his family live in Perth next season. You have the right to work near where your family live. They prevented Kelly from doing so. You also have the right to select your employer.

Still, Kelly elected not to make Freo an option.
I lost some sympathy accordingly.
Ross Lyon is costing the club players I think. Neale walking out was a real indictment.

Kelly played hard-ball and got the same from Geelong - what he deserved.
And next year, he can't just walk to the eagles; he'd have to nominate for the draft if he walks away as an uncontracted player (right?), so Geelong can still broker a trade next year (albeit with less bargaining power than this year).
Typical Geelong though - sill trading in/keeping older players instead of going through a minor rebuild with draft kids - they obviously think their window is still open, and that's their whole problem...good for all other teams though...

It was a good result overall as Kelly would have improved the Eagles while Geelong would have received big overs if the Eagles had of caved and thrown in the future 1st they also wanted.

^^Not big overs, depending on the deal. Eagles offered 20 + 22. If they'd offered 22 and 2019 first, that's not greatly different if the Eagles make top 4 next year.

Not sure if the Eagles offered this deal or not but they should have. Cats were asking for a top 10 pick so maybe they rejected this deal, but it wasn't reported anywhere.
