Googled AFL news and that is what came up

Collingwood and Nort Melbourne get harder draws for 2019 (Herald Sun)

Of course as I’ve said before cannot enlarge the info due to no Herald Sun account

Can anyone elaborate on this please

Teams with draws ranked among the five hardest have made finals just nine times from 20 attempts over the past four years.

That's a telling stat.

That's a telling stat.

Less telling for being based on draw "toughness" after the fact. Fremantle had the toughest draw this year apparently. Pre season that would not have been the case as that isn't how the system works. So the heading of: "North and Pies to have tougher draw" isn't really relevant to the article. We won't know if it's tougher, as this article defines it, till after the season.

Using the results of the season to decide who had the toughest draw doesn't really work. The teams that played Fremantle twice would have had a boost, somewhat explaining their good performance, for example.

Just another way the AFL has tried to introduce randomness of seasons.

Was always going to get a "harder" draw.

My friends said all year that this is why it was "unfair". And this is why "Collingwood look good".

Because we were given a soft draw.

They go for Essendon btw. And they'll be expecting an easy draw. And if they "Look good", it'll be because they have the best players and coaches...

But you know what.

You play everyone at least once. And you play 5 teams twice.

Whoopdy friggin do.

If we're good enough, we'll win.

And sometimes you can be lucky to get a team in a down patch.

I'm not a fan of the soft/hard draw theory. It's too even for mine.

So "worst case" in ladder position terms, given we have a couple of block busters, we play Richmond, Essendon, Carlton, West Coast and Hawthorn twice - I'd take that. Swapping Freo and Brisbane for West Coast and Hawthorn - It's a total of two more losses for the year is we repeat what we did against all of them, but lose to WC and Hawthorn twice, Unlikely that too.

I don't think it'll make much difference...

And then we smashed 2 teams in the finals who played in Prelims the year before.

Bring on a tough draw, we are on the way up. Nobody is stopping this surge baby!

To look at it more logically, 75% of the teams with the toughest draw this year made the 8, being 3 of the top 4 from last season. Given teams are placed in groups of 6 when determining the draw, extending that to the top 6: 4/6 (67%) of teams that had the toughest draw made the 8 this year.

I'm not going back any further, but I'd say 75% or more is about the mark each year of top 4 teams making the 8 and 67% of top 6 teams seems about right as well.

How tough the draw is will be based on 2018 not 2019. So, looking at how teams performed when retrospectively looking at their draw, as this article does, is pointless.

Hawthorn is our last great Bogey side.

We must finally stop the rot next year. Sick of losing to them.

Can't allow any rot to set in against West Coast either.

Hopefully the Richmond hold over us in recent years was broken in the Preliminary final also.

To the rest of the sides.....

Bring it bitches!
