Love that Mayne is now considered best 22, even when completely injury free. Being near our best in a Grand Final certainly changes perspectives. And to think this was a guy some used to say you can't win a Premiership with. _________________ Well done boys! |

good call. In good consciousness I couldn't move him out for more talented players like Aish or Wells. A tackling machine and great character to bounce back (Mayne). _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

We didn’t and we can’t. His effort in the Grand Final was fantastic but he’s not quick enough to close down space when the opposition is going the other way.
I used to think my Dad was crazy when he said we couldn’t win a flag with Kink in the team - but after 5 goes in 5 years, I started to see his point. That point was, of course, reinforced watching Kink star for Essendon in 1983.
Mayne has now played in 2 GFs for 0-2.

And been in the best players for both. |

He wasn’t for Freo. If I could be bothered, I’d find what I posted about his game for Freo while it was being played. |

Nathan Buckley was also 0 - 2... along with a few handy players named Alan Didak, James Clement... and Chris Tarrant who lost 3 across his career! |

Great. Another “best 22” with two injured players who may never play again in it, at least 2 that we haven’t even bothered to recontract yet and no Langdon. I suppose that lunacy will never end. |

Spurious statistic P4S, unless you think he's the reason Freo and the Pies lost those Grand Finals which is also untrue. If he's getting the blame because we lost the GF, should he get some credit for helping us get there in the first place? Or is it an all of the blame and none of the credit scenario?
You started off quite nuanced but quoting that stat at the end was a tad reductive. |

So difficult! I was going to start another thread with who are the walk up starts of our “recruits” (including those who played SFA last season).
For mine, if fit, round 1 walk up starts are:
Beams
Elliot
Wells
Moore
Dunn
That’s 5 that have to come out from our Grand Final 22. It would be 6 if Shaza was a realistic chance to be available round 1.
Goldy is one unfortunately and I’d say Aish and Greenwood are in the gun. That’s still two more and I have NFI who will come out. _________________ The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after. |
