without taking into account improvement that will likely come from youth (including guys like Kelly and Quaynor), returns from injury of some key players (like Scharenberg and Elliot) and seeing how the aging quality players (like Reid and Wells) hold up, here is my shot at our best 22 for 2019 and a summary of the list that comprises the rest.

THE TEAM

Crisp, Moore, Langdon
Maynard, Howe, Mayne
Phillips, Beams, Sidey
Pendles, Mihocek*, Stevo
DeGoey, Cox, WHE

Grundy, Treloar, Adams

Thomas, Sier, Varcoe, Aish.

KEY RESERVES: Greenwood, Goldsack, Dunn, Elliot, Wells, Reid, Appleby*, Scharenberg, Roughhead, Brown, Daicos

KEY YOUTH: Quaynor, Kelly, Murphy, T Brown, draft pick 3, draft pick 4, Lynch*.

WAITING TO BE DELISTED: Wills, Crocker, Broomhead*, Murray*.

Did i miss anyone?

I've got to think Dunn is a monty first pick at full back every day of the year.Moore slips into CHB and Howe on a flank taking cut out marks at will. Mayne may struggle to be in the best 18 when we have a full list and Roughead will play more games than not as 6'5 105 kg premiership players don't grow on trees. I think every player will need to be on their mettle to get a Guernsey next year. Let the injury gods be gone for a while.

With so much depth and so many question marks over the fitness and longevity of payers, it’s an impossible task.

Howe Dunn Langdon
Crisp Moore Scharenberg
Sidebottom Beams Phillips
Pendlebury DeGoey WHE
Elliot Cox Stephenson

Grundy Treloar Adams

Reid Sier Maynard Varcoe

If this team ever found fitness and top form together, I’d back them against any team.

Mayne, Thomas, Aish out and Dunn, Reid and Elliot in. Yours is probably a better team if each of your three guys are at their best. Part of the reason we keep complaining about all of the injuries is because we have quite a few blokes on our list whose bodies are shot. I'd add Wells and Scharenberg to the list. It would be hard to keep Wells and Scharenberg out of best 22 if only.....

I tried hard to get Wells into the team, but it would have been at the expense of Sier.

if Sier's endurance improves another 20% or so with another pre-season under his belt, there is zero chance Sier will ever be out of our best 22. He isn't there yet (mainly due to experience and endurance), but it wouldn't shock me at all if Sier becomes the dominant midfielder in the competition over the next three years (ala Fyfe)

So your team has Reid, Murphy, Daicos and Brown in place of Beams, Mihocek, Mayne, Aish. Very interesting. Do you think this will be true as of round 1. If so, 2 first rounders for Beams was a big mistake......

You're quite right. I forgot Aish. So, out Murphy, Varcoe off the bench onto the HBF and Aish into Varcoe's spot on the pine.

E, I don't really understand the conditions you're imposing in the OP but if Dunn qualifies for the team, then he is a lock in the backline.
On exposed form, he easily displaces Moore from the team.

Where Darcy is concerned, people consistently mistake potential for actual performance.
It will be fantastic if his body holds up this year and he develops into the player we all hope he will be. Fingers crossed.

A joke again we assume because Beams will be in the first 5 players picked each week.

When Dunn Moore Scharenberg are fully fit they will all be certain starters in the backline like they were prior to injuries striking them down
Crisp Howe and Maynard will complete the backline with Langdon Goldie fighting for the 7th defender on the bench a position Langdon filled when all defenders were available (except Goldie at the time as he was still recovering from a ACL)

Mate, there are no rules (only opinions). My introduction was just to explain how i think about our best 22. While i acknowledge there are some players more qualified for the best 22 based on historical form at some point in their career (such as Elliot, Wells, Scharenberg and Reid), my team tried to be pragmatic and take into account the likelihood of them returning to those levels anytime soon. Elliot in-particular will need to prove he can get his body right before i will consider him for best 22 (even though i think he is a gun). Same with Reid and Wells.

You preferring Dunn to Moore is a personal choice. I don't agree with it, but it isn't crazy.
