Post subject: 6-6-6 Rule | |

I have been reading up on this rule and reading opinions of the so called experts and I think this rule will really favour us
1 - Grundy is a dominate ruckman and can give our mid's first use of the ball. A tap down to Adams or Beams with the ball fed out to Pendles Treloar Sidey running forward to hit a Cox or mobile JDG or Stevo
Those defences with under sized backman will look to have a player run directly back from the back end of the square to try to shore up there weakness but that allows his direct opponent a free get 60 from goal
Quick ball movement will be key
Cox getting a run and jump at the ball unimpeded will be near impossible to stop
Clear the run way he could be anything this year
2 - If we lose the bounce our defenders aren't to bad in the 1 on 1 stakes
Other than Langdon all of our full time defenders (who played more than 10 games) went at over 60% win in the 1 on 1 contest and a couple were in the 70% range
Moore is going to be a beast in this with his athletism and speed he can get to a contest and jump on anyones head
Also Dunn Howe Scharenberg are very good in the 1 on 1 contests
We also have our running mids who can get back in a hurry if we get the ball to ground to start moving it out quickly and counter attack
This IMO makes us a more dangerous side than ever before
I see it also as a advantage to West Coast and maybe Melbounre
Looking forward to seeing how it plays out |

The kick in after a behind scored gives the player kicking in on top of the 10 meter another 10 meter from man on mark
So an adgile athtletic person can create a play on putting the cherry deep into attack
Some in media speculation has Darcy Moore (abiet a fit one) as a shoe in for the role _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

^Yes, Darcy has been handling kick ins at training. He seems well suited to the role given his athleticism and generally neat kicking. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

The same kick in after a behind rule will apply in AFL Womans game
Player putting ball into play can play on and the woman on mark stands 10 meters from the 10 meter goal square
So in some way we get a look at it this coming weekend _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

We are pretty good at getting centre clearances but sometimes the quality of that clearance can be lacking or poor. I believe this rule will make us more dominant in this area as the quality improves and we get more clearances that result in getting the ball in that hot spot 20-40m out from goal. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

I blame ScoMo's pentacostal roots for this AFL rule _________________ âI even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didnât keep âem under long enoughâ Kinky Friedman |

i could be wrong, but i think this rule is going to have very little practical significance. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

The general consensus is that the 6-6-6 set up for centre bounces will advantage tap ruckmen. With the mids going 1 on 1, without immediate help racing in from the back of the square, it will create more space for to run into and use the ball from an effective tap. This in turn will create deeper, more accurate forward 50 entries to 1 on 1 contests. This would certainly appear to favour us more than many other teams.
We must remember though that this is only for centre bounces.
The rule change that I think will impact the most (in favour of us) is the prior opportunity from ruck contests. Grundy already had the most possessions from ruck contests for last season, by a good margin. His strength at these contests and the rule change will mean he can take the ball more readily giving clear first use around the ground.
It all looks good on paper, but who knows what the reality will be! I guess we won't know until a ball is bounced in anger (or perhaps a few rounds in). Bring it on! |

Does anyone know if the 2 wingman need to set up at a designated spot on the 50 metre line, or can they set up anywhere along that line?
For instance can the wingman set up at the defensive side of the 50 metre square line as long as they stay on their designated side?
Basically this would enable a team to have both wingmen ready to rush into defence if needed.
Hope this makes sense. |

I believe the wingmen can be positioned anywhere on the line. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |
