When I first heard this, I did chuckle a little as I wasn't at all surprised.
That said, I hope he is OK and gets the help he needs. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Don't know how to feel about this. Obviously it's not a good situation and I hope he's OK for his and his family's sake.
But I can already see this playing out as a tragedy for which everyone else is to blame. The AFL, the media, Demetriou etc. Not saying Hird will play that card himself, but others in his "camp" will.
Hopefully this is the beginning of his personal recovery and he can repair some of those friendships _________________ http://youtu.be/hvtdbfI1sqQ |

Sad news. I have some sympathy with WPT's view. It would be better if this type of personal tragedy did not have to be played out in public, though I know it is inevitable that it will. I hope he is ok. All of us can make a misjudgement, and I hope he can recover from his. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

You don't? I suggest you examine your own sense of morality.
The man has children & a family. It is no else's business. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

It's not what'shisname's sense of morality you need to worry about. It's the media's. And they have none. Hence I'm guessing, why he's not surprised.
This story will sell a gazillion papers today.
I agree with you deja vu. And while I agree with Mandy in the what pisses me off thread, that no one should be slinging jokes about it, let's not make the man a Martyr. The whole essendrug saga leads straight back to his door, and then there is the rumours about his personal life. It's absolutely no surprise that he is struggling. And as much as the media is a piece of shit for their reporting, lets also not forget that Hird happily used the media during the saga when it suited him.
I have to wonder where and how he would be now, if only he had done as Corulla did, and put this to bed straight away. Even Armstrong kept some friends after he finally admitted his guilt.
Football is just a game, a livelihood, it's not worth dying over. Good luck with his recovery, hopefully he now gets the help he so obviously needs.
He has four children who are also wearing the brunt of this, and they deserve better. How much can those poor kids take? _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

As above he has a wife and children and it's them I feel really sorry for. Mental health issues are a serious matter and inflict a lot of damage on society. I hope he gets better soon and receives the help he needs. Garry Lyon is one who is getting his life back in order. Maybe he is one who can contact Hird in hospital and lift his spirits and get Hird back to his family. |

What'sinaname...is woman
I initially raised the issue of the media & described it as shocking (appalling behaviour) & noted his family as one of the reasons for my concern about the behaviour of the media here. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I sincerely hope he's ok and can get help if he so requires it. It must have been a mighty big kick in the guts what he suffered in the drug saga. No matter what his level of knowledge or culpability for a player idolised by so many and revered it must have really taken a huge personal toll.
I hope he can get well and be a great husband and father going forward |

Poor little Hirdy; the karmic payback on his unrestrained hubris has been rather epic. |
