So given JDG's failure to train properly, can we can confirm that he did in fact do another hammy late last year? Why don't we get explanations for this shit? Or have I missed something.

PS. Thanks to the posters who are doing these excellent reports, much appreciated.

Yep, this is bloody annoying. I don't understand the reasoning either, do they really think they're gonna outsmart the other sides by under or overestimating injury times? Not really likely. Look at Wells. He's apparently training hard & shed a few kegs, but I thought the foot was gonna cost him some of this year too? If he really has come back with a new attitude & planning to go all out, even as a last hurrah, it makes a 'Yuuge' difference. To think of the 2018 mids with Wells & Beamer added is off the charts!

More importantly, In the Goldsack interview, & other vids, I saw traces of the kind of camaraderie, and taking of the piss, I haven't seen since 2010-11.
Frankly, If we play with the grit & run we did last year & have slightly better "luck" on the injury front, I really can't see how anyone beats us this year. Many of our wins in '18 were gained despite playing just a quarter or so of our best footy.

The ONLY aspect we may NEED to improve on is scoring in the second half of games. We became too easy to stop from scoring, managing just 1-3 goals for a half way too often, which I think stemmed from the injuries to our best defenders.

I seriously haven't been this confident going into a season since...
Monbulk U/18s Rucking to Greg Anderson. (not the Ess. player!).

But then this much confidence seldom works out well, so I'll shut the f*** up now.

PS: Do we have a Fantasy side again this year?

Apparently JDG was training relatively strongly on Wednesday, albeit it was a lighter day overall. He's definitely being managed, heavier than most.

Wells has done little but running while outside. I have a attended a few sessions and he has either been absent or running. Other than some gentle kick to kick, I haven't seen him in match simulation or contested or overly focussed on his football handling at all.

I thought JDG injury was something like Shin splints - lower leg bone stress rather than hammy.

it may make sense as your supposed to take several weeks off and gradually return to training.

If that's the case he probably aggravated to condition with the finals and is only just getting on top of it now.

I had shin splints back in the 80's when I was training 7 days each week on very hard and dry grounds as a result of combining pre-season footy training and cricket. Sometimes it felt like it was getting better then it flared up again as the best remedy was complete rest, for who knows how long, and I did not want to do that. It disappeared once the cricket GF was over and we had a bit of rain. Very frustrating in the mean time. If JDG has the same issue it will be managed a lot better than in my case but it will mean less probability of playing in the midfield.

I had a good look at JDG yesterday. I don't think it's a hammy but rather lower leg bone stress as above. He was running very freely and was burning off Crocker in the sprints. All the players are wearing GPS's. They are instructed how much training to do and it is all carefully monitored. Players were turning up late on the track on restricted programs and I'm assuming they are doing a lot of work in the gym before they train on the track. Several are on restricted programs including WHE, Crisp, Wells, Wills, Scharenberg, Elliot, Dunn, Adams, Kelly and Goldy. All those on restricted programs were looking good on the training track meaning to me that they should all be ok by round one unless they have setbacks.

I did too, from training for the nationals in the triple jump! Unbelievably painful and i agree, rest is the only real way to heal. That, and shin rubs from unbelievably cute 21 yo physio's to break up the scar tissue....

As to JDG, the fact that he is on a modified training program just shows that we are a LOT smarter about pre-season training than we used to be.

“and other observations “ Media in the “drought period “ are guestulating your clubs recruit that will play round one (we had JS last yr)

Disregarding Beams or Roughead , which uncapped player/s could break in to the 22

Quaynor maybe

I hope so, I've backed him @ 40/1 for the rising star.

Is there any more info on this from anyone....

The Pies have a potentially uncomfortable number of players not yet training fully with the main group. They include Dayne Beams, Jordan De Goey, Jack Crisp, Jamie Elliott, Ben Reid, Daniel Wells, Levi Greenwood, Flynn Appleby, Rupert Wills, Will Kelly and rookie-listed Tim Broomhead. Star ruckman Brodie Grundy is expected to be grounded for another week with a bruised little toe but Jeremy Howe is returning to full training after a shoulder operation, while fellow defenders Lynden Dunn and Matthew Scharenberg are going well on their way back from knee reconstructions.

At least according to that report, by omission, Moore is in full training. Very Happy
